28 miles, avgMPH 19.0, maxMPH 45.9 from hinckley, bellus west, then N on stony hill into headwind up river, E on pkwy, S on barr, highland, algiers, W on bellus S medina line finish up euroclimb. felt good, not sure why probably well rested.

running (trail) 25:00 [3]

buckeye trail E down euroclimb, up small hill to near bridle path entrance, out in 12:30, then back. ugh.

brecksville, start at brecksville rd, tried running some in woods but rolled left ankle 2x, Hoka's and woods are not friends to each other yet, so nearly all on buckeye trail, cleveburg lucks out for once and the evil storm to the east missed us, super windy though, counted 8 trees down and 4 limbs that'd konk you good, along the route. finished w/ long grade up to van along golf course, its always amusing to find brand new Pro V1x's about 100 yds out from blue tees and about 60 yds dead right.....in the woods! bunch of hacks, probably have $ 3k clubs too that just never seem to work right, lessons y'all lessons. oh i felt pretty good too.

24.1 miles, avgMPH 18.7-ish. E on royalwood, oakes, into brecksville, S on riverview to snowville then up to parkway and home. howling wind out of north and cold, temp 41 F, some light rain for added fun.

us champs middle distance, greenX. prior to start hamstrings were extremely tight. first 3 legs were fine, went straight, 4th made +/- 5min error, was going straight but i think i was extremely close but went left, and basically bounced like a maniac all around the green, finally dropped down to trail then the bare rock and but it seemed as though i zigagged by several times. to 5 made a 2.5 min error, again i think i was standing right on the rock but didn't see it, got tired of bouncing off the bare rock and other rocks, so went to the nose of the hill in the white and navigated in from there. well that was my 2 errors and everything else was ok, did the usual....went straight on every one, except to 13 ran a bit left of line to the yellow/bare rock/trail/road and up into control, that worked well. we departed right away for the 13 hr drive back to cleveland, at 2am i checked results and was surprised i placed 3rd, i thought the 2 blunders would have cost me more.....oh the dream to run clean!...the entire event was super though.

us champs greenX, totally bombed first control, went straight, sort of along S side of swamp to road, then to road intersection, and thought i had a good line to control but botched it bad, made 2 tries at it, relocated back to road and ran E to linear reentrant and sort of N to control i think it was +/- 6 min error, just wasn't focused or concentrating, mind was wandering about songs, food, cheese, my calf, my hamstring, jumbo magnifiers, etc., got really pissed off and hauled ass to 2 and spiked it, 3 was fair, then bombed 4, since i couldn't run straight and had to curve a bit around swamp i ran right past the control, came back and still couldn't find it, ran till i could see 3 then walked to 4 and found it, probably 4+ min error. so once again i was super pissed off, so i was trying to run hard to make up for mucho lost time, got my act together and ran everything straight , which is all i can do, missed running N up to road from 10 to 11 (which was faster) i opted to run straight. overall was satisfied w/ result but seem to make 2 mistakes on each race that dooms me, only lost about 30 sec to joe b, from 4th to finish, so that was good. need to learn how to use dem der maps and that thing called a compass and figure out how this orienteering game works.

us sprint champs green#4 course, i really don't like sprints at all, don't often do them, but this one was great, i had alot of fun. was slow into 5 went around the building and wasn't sure where i was for several seconds, but when running to 5 it sure looked like 6 was to the rt, or west so i ran to it, but the code was wrong.... the 6 was really a 9 on the map which i was looking at upside down, so i think it cost me 1.5 min or so, then later made a stupid blunder and tried to go from 15 to 16 thru the green, thought i could take a few giant steps thru but it was slow and lost time, so ended up 6th. overall i really liked this event.

nearly all leg stuff. back to winter training, f-ing snowing today thanks cleveland, plus biggest client called late last week, needing emergency tile repairs, so yesterday was 15.5 hrs finishing a bathroom remodel and the grunt of demo/prep at the school. same today but not as long, but this's all i had time for. tomorrow is doubtful as well, ugh.

took n back to kent, stopped at virginia kendall, started at 5:40pm. easy pace bopping all around park, spent time in the small "floodplain" in northern part, there's stuff messed up on the map, boulders missing, boulders to be added, lines are retarded in a couple areas. too full to run fast, tired from previous couple days, probably visited +/- 45 spots.

orienteering (practice) 1:02:00 [3]

hinckley, ran a 7.5km red course from club event from a couple years ago, back then tried to run but calf was bad at the time and i couldn't run. Today tried to run fast as possible, sore from yesterdays workout, felt decent but weak on climb parts, probably a 1 min error on first leg, then rest was clean, stopped for +/- 5 sec at each spot, took a couple of slower legs to get woods/navigating to avoid trails.

hinckley from kellog rd. east on bridle trails/foot paths/woods all the way to top of euro climb then back plus a loop to the N part of the woods by 606. actually felt pretty good, just easy/steady pace.

big bone lick map. didn't even think about calf, its perfect, no pain/tightness/twinges, etc. the entire weekend, so i'm really super happy about that.
thought i had done better, i had alot of issues with the rain on map and magnifier especially in the ditch cities. 2 bad errors. going into 2 had dry ditch issues, seemed like extra ones down there. ended up to the right and too low. messed up 13 went slighty left out of 12 up to trail, ran a bit east to near the white then dropped down to trail, cut the corner then took off and ran past control and was messing around S of control then bailed to trail went back a bit and found it i think it was over 4 min, ugh. took bad route to 9, went straight but through trail/clearing then then jungle was like a crawl. should have run up to campground and down. everything else i was trying to go straight. physically felt ok, just cant figure out how orienteer. somehow kicked ass to 4 though.
