Long map memory with Joe, needing to check the control feature a few times.
Corridor exercise which caught me out in the thicker rhodedendron bushes.

Fast orienteering using the practised technique, direction. Pretty difficult to hold a line through wind blow, however. Great weekend, thanks Chris!

Today's focus was on direction so some interesting courses, most with a lot of blanked out areas. Seemed to drift right on most longer bearings so something to try and work on.

Fun style of training with some thought provoking route choices. Legs feeling lactic at the end.

KNC St Leonard's Forest Night-O. Muddy area with a lot of technical bike trails. Got to my 3rd control in and spent around 3mins looking for it because it wasn't actually there! Found the tape though. So my plan was great, just logistical issues on the organisational side. Enjoyed the event thoroughly.

Fitstuff G3 10km XC Trail race. 6th out of 185. Lovely course with mud, slopes & forest starting at Newlands and running over St Martha's, Chantries and back. Felt strong overall and held a solid pace throughout.

DFOK level B Chelwood - Short Brown
Decided to run slow & long with my cold lingering on - first mistake. Second mistake going into #1 which was annoying, but no more mistakes at all thereafter. Then got into the nicer and faster wooded part of the area (south) which offered some interesting route choices and control sites.
Cut the course short since my cold & blocked passages were getting to me, and strength failing. So decided to bail at 6km, no benefit in doing the final loop. Need a couple more easy days training to recover properly.

KNC 14 Night-O Tilgate (80s & 90s in under 1hr)
Felt fine starting, having a good plan right from the get go. Had the same plan as Nick B so had a fast battle with him throughout. I made a small mistake at the 3rd to last control so he could get away and beat me by 20 seconds or so. Ended up only 4 seconds behind Stan so pretty happy overall.

Military event Long-O, Ash Ranges, 10.5km
Pretty long Brown course, with a lot of tough heather and bracken trudging. Good test of strength & stamina. Started well, but lost 2 mins on #10 due to poor off-line compass. Slowed up in the 2nd half, and ditched 3 more mins in bad vegetation at 16 & 17, 1 hour in, as concentration started to wane. But kept my act together in the final km of control pick short legs and finished in good shape.
