Orienteering race (SA -- Pinhey's Point) 33:30 [0] 4.6 km (7:17 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 Trail Talon 250

Funny how easy it is to make mistakes on straightforward terrain when you don't pay full enough attention! Fun course though.

Major stamina issue today, felt sluggish and out of breath, had to walk for a few bits on the "long" legs, not sure where this came from. And the hill going up to 21 -- fuhgeddaboudit!

Think it will be best to take it easy tomorrow and not try to race, just have an easy pace and focus on navigation, especially with all those contours which are definitely not my strong point (not that I have any strong points, ha!).

Meet prep (control site checking) 2:00:00 [0]
shoes: Brooks

Checked the rest of the McCarthy sites. Sans dogs -- much more efficient!

Orienteering (SA -- March Highlands) 1:21:37 [0] 7.78 km (10:29 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 Trail Talon 250

Do I know how to add mileage, or do I know how to add mileage! 4 km as the crow flies, 7.8 km for me. Several legs felt like they were on track and going well, until I ended up way off base, not sure what happened, and took forever to relocate. Case in point #8, deliberately went right by #5 to make sure I was on course, then somehow veered way off course. And #3 -- I have not the faintest idea what I was thinking, turning south at the trail bend instead of going straight. WTH!

And to think I had thought about trying the long today! Yikes!

Meet prep (control site checking) 2:40:00 [0]
shoes: Inov-8 Trail Talon 250

After the wacky morning, picked up the dogs to "help"* me do some control site checking at McCarthy.

One control feature I couldn't find whatsoever, so will likely need to choose a new one.

*Control site checking likely goes a LOT faster without stopping every 10m to untangle dogs' long lines from vegetation. It was an exercise in patience, both mine and the dogs'. But hopefully they will agree it was a better afternoon than snoozing at home. Or not. One thing I learned is that they're not too fond of bushwacking -- they looked incredibly thrilled slightly relieved each time we reconnected with a trail. Wimps!

All this time today and I only checked about 2/3 of the sites. Perhaps next time the dogs will stay home :)
