Orienteering race 16:58 [5] 1.78 mi (9:32 / mi)
shoes: New Balance Vazee Summitt Trai

DVOA Summer Sprint Series - Schuylkill Center

Way too much traffic - almost 90 minutes to get there.

Did sprint 1 first to get the longer of the 2 done. Tried to bushwhack from 2 to 3 and found the ground impassable. I ended up just taking the path of least resistance and popped out in a place I wasn't expecting - considerable time lost. No issues elsewhere.

Sprint 2

Learned my lesson; stayed on the trails and just motored. Ran into some stinging nettle on the way to 8. Little hesitance there as I actually missed the mapped path and used an adjacent game trail. Also a few moments slow on 11 as I had the control at the fence when it was actually on a nearby path. I realized afterwards that the clues were verbal and not symbols, which would have been great to know, as I don't look at the symbols because I can never remember what they mean.

Was told that I somehow won this sprint (by 8 seconds). Had a nice time chatting with Brent and Abby afterwards as well!

Run 29:08 [3] 3.23 mi (9:01 / mi)
shoes: New Balance Leadville 1210

Run at Harmony Hill while pushing Noah in the stroller. Pretty tired from today's heat and the work my legs did the previous 2 days. The stroller is much more of a workout than I remembered.

Run 30:28 [5] 2.91 mi (10:28 / mi)
shoes: New Balance Leadville 1210

Hill repeats at Harmony Hill while Noah rode his bike with Rebekah. Went up the huge hill, then down the black trail. Was able to get 4 full loops in. Strava segment calls the hill "The Humbler" - this is the most appropriate segment name.

Mountain Bike race 2:08:22 [4] 14.5 mi (8:51 / mi)

Gear Grinder MTBO event. First overall by about 6 minutes. I knew I was doing decently, but it was difficult to track as I was first out and didn't really see many other riders.

Raining throughout, varying from steady to pouring. Trails were incredily muddy, with loads of standing water and a number of sections with running water. Had only 2 issues where I missed a turn, but caught them within 100 m. Other than that I kept great contact with the map. Between 9 and 11 (10 was removed due to rain) I broke my chain again, but was able to quickly fix it with a quick link. After that, I couldn't really pedal in my lowest gear in the front without jamming up the chain. I think this was mostly due to the horrible conditions. Still, I plan to rebuild the drive train in time for the MSAR.

Erik set a great course; some good nav choice with a definite need to stay found the whole time. Hope to come back for it next year!

Run 52:19 [4] 6.93 mi (7:33 / mi)
shoes: New Balance Vazee Summitt Trai

Run at Cheslen. Started at the lot on Cannery Rd to avoid the swamp on the lower field. Felt strong, so I kept the pace up for the entire run. Trails were surprisingly dry, with only one or two wet sports.

Run 53:25 [3] 6.3 mi (8:29 / mi)
shoes: New Balance Leadville 1210

Been very rainy all week - took a run at Cheslen during a less rainy afternoon. Parked at Stargazer - the lower field was completely swamped across the middle. Crossed it in water up past my knees. Ended up making for a good training run as I went all the way across the red trail to 162 and then finished back through a different but equally swampy section of the lower field.
