Orienteering race (orienteering race) 48:58 [5] ***** 3.7 km (13:14 / km) +220m 10:12 / km

A public race parallel with the World Cup middle distance at Valdstejn near Turnov, Czech Republic. Nothing but sandstones and steep valleys. Very tough physically. Twisted my left ankle so hobbled most of the way, but that at least meant I made no mistakes in this punishing, unforgiving terrain. Magnificent arena in the picturesque setting of the Valdstejn Castle. The last time I felt this elated by the whole experience was at the 1991 World Championships in Marianske Lazne. Hats off to the organizing team!

Orienteering race (Orienteering sprint race) 26:25 [5] **** 3.55 km (7:26 / km) +100m 6:31 / km

A spectators' race following a World Cup mixed sprint relay on Prague's Petrin Hill. Spectacular setting, great weather, packed World Cup arena, what more can one wish for .... The course offered was one of the relay legs.
