Running 22:24 [4] 4.0 km (5:36 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel-Kayano 22

Brisk, cool run to head of S-loop and back, with a slight diversion to circumvent two large downed trees after last night's crazy winds. At some point, our front fence was blown down, along with the roof rack box!
I wanted to amp up the pace just a bit to test how my knees felt afterwards. They were great!
Finished off the aft by having lunch with Sandra and then walking around Westboro village. Knees still good! Yay for those daily XBX exercises ( I'm kn Level 9 now) and additional knee exercises throughout the week, at random.
Beautiful sunny day, 21 degrees, light breeze.

Orienteering 1:15:00 [3] 6.0 km (12:30 / km)
shoes: Salomon Speedcross 3

Technical training session at Timm Dr Northeast sector. Andrew and I got a lift there and back in Errol's Virtucar :)
It was a very intense and - at times - difficult lesson tonight. The emohasis was kn proper use of the compass, and using bearings effectively to follow the line, or at least stay as close to it as possible. Jeff likened this to using "only one set of muscles", as the other aspects of orienteering that we usually focus on were left to the sidelines.
This was an excellent session for me, as I was determined to use my compass as best as I could, looking at it every few seconds to ensure that I wasn't wavering too far from the bead. I discovered that I tend to angle my wrist out to the right, which consistently puts me off the bearing as a sway to the right. Wow! Was this ever illustrative!! Eureka!
I steadfastly tramped through the swampy and muddy-swampy bits and was able to get to the tenth control on the first advanced loop before curfew had me racing along the trails to get back to the start by 8:00 to regroup.
Excellent, tough-but-satisfying all 'round! Andrew also found it tough, and was not too happy on the way back for various reasons. Live and learn.
TICK ALERT! Lots (6 on me!) and in sneaky spots (back of neck, crawling up to hairline). Little devils. Even spotted a few on us in the car-ride back!
Weather: perfect cool-mild, no rain, slight breeze.
Note: MAN was I tired and creaky after this one. A 'good' tired, though!
Thanks to Stefan and Jeff for the great courses and instruction :)

Walk with Sandra along SJAM underpass loop. Fine, sunny, warm day with a cool breeze. Sweat factor in effect by the end of the walk!

Orienteering 1:49:45 [4] 9.0 km (12:12 / km)
shoes: Salomon Speedcross 3

My first short advanced course in the woods, and I didn't mispunch! Yay!
Made some very silly mistakes... Right down to the go control!! What was that all about?
Anyway, I was very happy to have completed the course, even though three of the controls cost me about 55 min collectively. I went off the trails more often, tried to use land formations, generalized the map in parts, and used some effective attack points. Inreally, really need to work on using my compass more effectively. A lesson is required! Hope we have a training session on that soon!
Lovely day for running about: cool, overcast, dry. The woods were lovely, dark, and deep. Haha.
Fun morning with Francis and Andrew who were very patiently waiting (and searching) for me.
