What a wonderful birthday! I started it with a liesurely breakfast, then did a utility walk to pick up some things at Shoppers DM. Then Tasha and I went for a 'shake out the legs' run to the S-Loop Head and back. The rainy weather cleared up by 10:00, so we had ideal conditions: cool, somewhat overcast, slight breeze.
After lunch, Tasha drove us to Bayshore for some BDay shopping. We walked a lot in the mall, and took advantage of some good deals. Tasha's 25% off Coach's privelege at LuLu Lemon paid off (haha) and I scored some Yukon-wear. Eddie B's had a 40% off sale, so ditto. Tasha gave me a gorgeous LuLu hoodie for my BDay. Also picked up a pair of Keen enclosed sandals on sale at Sport Chek, courtesy of GMa Fran's BDay gift to me (thanks, Mom!). Tasha picked up some resistance band loops for her Garrett exercises, and she showed me how to do one of them. When she checked out my running form during our loop, she noticed that I'm favouring my left side (icky knee side), so I have something to work on there.
In the aft I worked outside in the garden for about 75 min. Tackled some serious digging out of overspreading variegated grasses and tiger lillies. Also did some back and forth carrying-soil-on-the-shovel intervals to fill up the depression left by my dig-out. Good exercise!
BDay dinner was shawarma followed by apple pie with ice cream (a la Dean), picked up by Francis and Tasha. Received WONDERFUL presents from everyone, including a nifty purple Gregory running backpack, with option for Camelpac, from Francis. This will be great for my future utility runs to the library, etc. I'm getting so prepared for an active retirement. Since I also got lots of 'energy'-containing goodies to eat, and wonderful reading material from both Francis and Andrew, I'll have to remain active or turn into a potato!
In the evening we watched Paddington, at my request. It was even better than I thought it would be. That was the second movie in 24h, as Tasha took me to see Avengers Infinity War last night. Yowza!
All in all, a most enjoyable and productive birthday as I turn 58 and look forward to the coming year. My best gift of all is my incredible family: Francis, Natasha and Andrew are the best parts of my life. Oh, and Hazel too!
Too bad Mom isn't in Ottawa to share these days with us, too. Maybe in the years to come.
P.S. , the Lotto 649 didn't pan out, but I've already won the lottery :)
