Running 30:56 [3] 5.15 km (6:00 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel-Kayano 22

Ran to library with 4 books in the Camelpak. Clocked the journey there as 2.58 km in 15:48, pretty much following the roads (Carling to Woodroffe). Spent just under 10 min in the library to choose 3 paperbacks and make a quick pit stop. On the way back I cut across main roads in a couple of spots but went back the same way. Never had to stop either on the way there or on
the way back :)
Great day: sunny, 5 degrees C, a bit of a cooling wind on the way back.
Advanced to Level 8 XBX this morning!

Orienteering 59:58 [3] 7.07 km (8:29 / km)
shoes: Salomon Speedcross 3

O-training at Tunney's Pasture. Three sprint map loops, emphasis on reading control descriptions for the purpose of finding the flag ASAP without a second thought. This was a very good exercise for me. I had practiced interpreting the control description symbols on orienteering.org, and so had a better understanding of all of the different 'blocks' ( A,B,C, etc.) that are part of the row of control description symbols. I needed an official tutorial in that. I had fun reading the sprint maps, and was delighted to find that I was 'running through' several controls because I knew where to look ahead of time, and spotted them right away. I gave each flag a wee kick with my foot!
Andrew had a good session too, as he covered all three maps and found the controls quite easily.
Terrific workout, great weather (no rain, snow, or ice!) and great company. We missed Francis being there, but maybe it was good for Andrew and I to practice out on our own with the club. I told myself ahead of time to cover no more than 7 km or so, and was able to complete Advanced Loop 3 (19 controls), Advanced Loop 2 (13 controls), and 3 controls of Advanced Loop 1 before hitting my target mileage goal. I spent a few minutes in-between Loops chatting with Jennie, but the advanced coaches weren't really around for a de-brief at those times, so I hope next time I can go over a few of the controls with Stefan or Jeff.

Running 1:00:00 [3] 5.87 km (10:13 / km)
shoes: Salomon Speedcross 3

Line-O training session at Stony Swamp set up by Jeff T to replace the cancelled Constance Bay B meet. Gusty cold wind in parking lot was replaced by nice running conditions in the sheltered woods, although there were several swampy, soaking spots to navigate through/around.
Caught up with Anne T and we navigated together for the last 2/3 of our workout. Very enjoyable, and a good session for practicing reading the terrain and running while following the map.
Francis and Andrew ran much farther, much faster, but I was happy to cover about 6k with no knee issues to speak of! My overall time includes some "stop and think" minutes where I didn't stop my watch, so my pacing was actually faster than reported.
A few spurts of ice pellets near the end of the last loop were the harbingers of the approaching storm. Nice of Jeff to set this up so we could enjoy a Sunday O to cap off the weekend,
Saw a big ol' fat porcupine curled up in a tree and many wild turkey tracks. No deer, and -hopefully - no deer ticks!
