Morning Run warm up/down 4:00 [1]

Orienteering race (ZigZag) 57:11 [4] *** 3.8 km (15:03 / km) +210m 11:47 / km
spiked:9/10c shoes: Nike Air Terra Humara

Pre-race of Sunday's course, can't make the event. Will be giving feedback to the course setters and hopefully comment more later.

No flags or streamers, though I saw a streamer on one control, must have been a previous year's placement;-) My time has ~3 minutes extra on the first control that I thought I was there, had a clear view of the control location and expect that if it was there I would have found it. But I didn't see a feature I thought I should, so I ran further, verified I had been in the right spot and returned.

Didn't have the energy I thought I should have... Have to see how times compare. I've got splits to put in later.

Leaving 3 I headed NNW and cut up and then down the spur passing the area of 5 to get to the stream. That worked fairly well for me and left a good spot to cross.

I paid particular attention on the way to 4-7 after crossing to get up the right hill. On 7 I went down the stream path to the bridge to be sure I climbed the right hill - there was the potential of heading up any one of 3 if you crossed back badly...

Orienteering (Orange) 42:16 [3] 2.7 km (15:39 / km) +110m 13:00 / km
shoes: Nike Air Terra Humara

Finished the ZigZag, started the Orange with no break. Same controls in a different order, so I made navigation choices to work different skills, potentially at more time.

Realized I have two navigation "styles" In one, I'm aiming to travel through the area expecting that I'll see the control. In the other, I'm aiming to get to the exact spot. I'm sure both are valid for different events and or control settings, but hadn't really thought about that.

Morning Run 14:53 [4] 1.9 mi (7:50 / mi) +20m 7:35 / mi
shoes: Nike Air Terra Humara

Went on a pace run, and felt good at the pace I started for much less than a km...-( On the plus side, I was able to get around in less than 15 minutes which is a good thing in general...

Decided to count steps and then thought I could keep better track if I clicked a split when I was at 100 instead of trying to remember how many it was...
2:18 (200), 2:22 (200), 1:12, 1:10, 1:12, 1:12, 1:13, 1:13, 1:12, 1:14, 35 (48)

Which totals 1248 strides or 84 strides per minute - which is a good thing too.

I've thought my step was consistent at 1m/yd in length, and it's at least 25% longer, maybe it's that long in a jog...

It is very interesting that my rate was this consistent - even if my speed was falling off.

Morning Run warm up/down 4:21 [2]

Morning Run intervals 16:28 [4] 1.9 mi (8:40 / mi) +20m 8:23 / mi
shoes: Nike Air Terra Humara

Ran 100st off / 50st sprints around my 2m route, 9 reps = 1350 strides in 16:28 which translates to 82 strides / minute or 164 steps / minute.

6:57 / 1:08 / 8:11 / :17 [.9m / .1m / .9m / bit extra to complete rep]

Bit of excitement as I look back - I found a May 1 2007 log where I did nearly the same workout - didn't quite finish a 9th rep then, but the time is nearly identical. I'd like to think that indicates my form is back to pre-shoulder shape [June 2007 event].

I was feeling reasonably strong at that point in time, and looking forward to the summer sprint series. This year I'm not going to concentrate on the sprints so much as to continue working the longer endurance and hills (which should have an effect on the sprints anyway). I'm also going to be wary of cycling events;-)
