Iceberg Lake and Screaming Cat Lake in Whistler.
I was surprised by how quiet the Iceberg Lake trail was. It is very instagrammable so expected it to be heaving. Only 1 other car at the trailhead when I left, and 6 when I got back.
The ascent to Iceberg Lake along 19 Mile Creek was lovely. A varied trail, without the usual endless switchbacks. Lots of water sources and a waterfall. Bugs weren't too bad. Final scramble up to the lake is in the sub-alpine, and lots of flowers should be out soon. It's ~7.5km and just over 2 hours to get up.
I decided not to do an out-and-back, and looped around Skywalk North trail to Screaming Cat Lake. This was disappointing. I was expected full alpine, but it was bits of sub-alpine and mostly forest. The haze limited views. The bugs were awful - I had bug spray and a bug net and still got bit! Screaming Cat Lake is nothing impressive. The descent down Flank trail was very tedious. I'd definitely recommend just heading back down 19 Mile Creek (or trying to make a loop via Skywalk South).
