Two-hour Score-O at Box Canyon.

Aaaannnddd...apparently I used up all of my nav precision yesterday.

My eyes were heavily watering non-stop for the entire two hours (due to the cold wind), which was unpleasant and distracting. When that happens, I can't see very well, I have to stop repeatedly to clean off my glasses, and my face gets painfully chafed from constant wiping.

I think that distraction was a legit factor in some of my mistakes...which were many, including overshooting #20; taking a really dumb route to #29; and wandering off the west edge of the map on my way to #33. Ay caramba.

In retrospect, I wish I had stayed on the north side of the road the whole time, since that area is less steep with more controls. I'm pretty awful at Score-O / ROGAINE route planning...

This was a great weekend (despite the heavy homework stress) -- can't wait to go back again.

Red course at Ironwood.

Possibly one of my most precise courses *ever*. It's very difficult to relocate on this map and I've gotten hopelessly lost here in the past -- so I was hyper-focused on my compass. I also took conservative trail routes to #2 and #5 (maybe not the best route choice...but I didn't get hopelessly lost).

Also -- no terrible cholla encounters were had.

Red course at Catalina State Park.

Today was more overcast and grey than yesterday, but plenty warm. Also, I really enjoyed the course.

I had a dumb wandering mistake at the end of the long leg to #8 (and also, I had planned to stay a bit lower as I was contouring around after leaving the trail). I also made a dumb time-wasting mistake at #9. But overall I was happy with how this went, and it was fun to see familiar faces at the finish.

yellow = intended route.

A very nice afternoon hike at Sweetwater Preserve -- sunny and literally 70 degrees warmer than when I left Denver this morning.

As I was pulling into Safeway on the way back to my Airbnb place, a guy came running through the parking lot, pushing an overloaded shopping cart and nearly hitting the back of my car. Then it looked like he was trying to open random car doors. When he saw me looking at him, he glared at me and reached into his waistband to suggest he had a gun. Someone else in the lot said he had stolen a cart full of electronics from a nearby store. I called 911, got transferred, got put on hold, and eventually hung up (the guy with the cart had left the area by then). A dispatcher called me back about 15 minutes later. I'm glad it wasn't an actual emergency...

Neighborhood run. It was 19°F, there was a strong Weld County smell wafting from the east, and I have a crushing to-do list. So this wasn't 100% blissful, but I'm glad I got out for a short jaunt...
