Orienteering race (Green Y) 1:24:32 [3] 4.46 mi (18:57 / mi) +493ft 17:09 / mi
slept:6.0 shoes: Salomon Speedcross (2017-Navy)

I didn't want to repeat yesterday's mistakes...but I still managed to blow it on #1 again. DOH!

The rest went OK, except for wasting time fighting through thick green (and almost losing my shoe in marsh-mud) shortly after I left #2.

I had planned to run along a portion of the east-west trail ~halfway between #2 and #3 -- and thank goodness I saw people running on it as I approached, because otherwise I don't think I ever would have spotted it (very indistinct, covered with tons of leaves) -- and that would have been disaster-ville for me, since I was banking on that trail to serve as a waypoint on that long leg and I didn't really have a backup plan. :-P

As I got close to #8, I tripped going slightly downhill and landed HARD on a log. I'm glad my forearm took the brunt of it, because I think I landed hard enough to possibly fracture a rib if I had landed on my torso. My shoulder was also wrenched -- it hurt to move my arm / hand / fingers for the rest of the day. :-P

But otherwise, as yesterday, I felt like my tentative footing (not my fitness level) was the only thing slowing me down -- especially since today's ground cover situation was a little worse than yesterday's.

A very cold but very fun weekend. :-)

Orienteering race (Green Y) 1:36:05 [3] 5.38 mi (17:52 / mi) +607ft 16:08 / mi
slept:6.0 shoes: Salomon Speedcross (2017-Navy)

Most of this went OK, but I had big time-wasting mistakes at #1 and #2. Looking at my tracks for those two, I was on track until I got close to the control -- and then things went awry. Sigh... Also, in retrospect, I would attack #10 differently, to be more efficient.

I had the right layers for the COLD weather, except that my fingers were painfully frozen for the first few controls.

I felt good running and did not feel like my fitness level was holding me back in any way (unlike at many previous races). But, I was definitely tentative and slower than I should have been b/c I didn't want to twist an ankle.
