Start / finish timing at the Corn Maze. We had a decent turnout, and the combination of an early-season event date and putting letter codes at all controls (as an alternative to the punches) definitely helped to minimize conflicts in the maze this time. The fog & clouds eventually cleared, it warmed up, and a group of us had a nice lunch at the farm. Then I went home and cried for most of the afternoon; seeing Troy with his new insta-family is really, really, REALLY hard.

Run / Hike (Summer Training 2017) 54:23 [3] 5.53 mi (9:50 / mi) +220ft 9:29 / mi
shoes: Brooks Adrenaline (2017)

My training plan assignment for today was to do an easy five miles.

From home, around the arboretum, up to and then around Harper Lake, a short loop at Davidson Mesa, and then back home.

Pleasant conditions -- overcast / occasional sun and cool enough for long sleeves pulled over my hands.

Orienteering 1:30:00 [3] 3.03 mi (29:42 / mi)
slept:6.0 weight:110.8lbs shoes: Brooks Adrenaline (2016)

For tomorrow's RMOC event -- I walked the corn maze to put letter-codes on all of the control posts. (In previous years, some of the fast runners have lost time having to wait for groups of non-orienteer kids taking extra-long with the punches...) We've had a ton of rain this week, so I was worried the maze would be a muddy mess; but it was mostly OK, and there was a boot scraper near the farm exit.

The maze was 2.6 miles (I only got lost once), and then I walked around the farm to see the baby goats, etc.

In addition to the corn maze, petting zoo, and pumpkin canon, Anderson Farms now also has a fracking demo!

Run / Hike (Summer Training 2017) 49:25 [3] 4.81 mi (10:16 / mi) +243ft 9:48 / mi
slept:7.0 weight:111.3lbs shoes: Brooks Adrenaline (2017)

- Jogged to the rec center to warm up.

- The workout was just a four-mile "fun run", since tonight was the last session of the summer training season. :-( I ran the first three miles at a pace that was comfortable for me (9:38, 9:12, 9:28), but I was still slow enough to be the pacer for Carol's "easy" pre-marathon run. ;-) I ran the last mile more slowly (11:10), so I could chat with Sam & Jen.

- Jogged home.

Run / Hike 23:36 [3] 2.15 mi (10:59 / mi) +85ft 10:35 / mi

The Runners Roost social run (which I very rarely attend) was relocated to Boulder this week, where they have opened a new store at the Table Mesa shopping center. I just did an easy two-mile run with a few others -- and then caved to the temptation to buy something on my way out of the store. :-P Also -- free beer & pizza (good pizza).

Run / Hike (Summer Training 2017) 47:45 [3] 4.25 mi (11:14 / mi) +151ft 10:52 / mi
slept:8.0 weight:111.4lbs shoes: Brooks Adrenaline (2017)

- Ran a little over a mile to warm up.

- And then my stomach went nuts again -- so I fast-walked back to the trailhead / bathroom, and then back to the group.

- Mile repeats x 2 (8:40, 8:20). I would have preferred to do at least one more, but didn't have the time or stomach fortitude.

- Walked back to the car.

Since this is the last week of the summer training session, a bunch of us went to Mod Pizza afterwards. My stomach settled enough to enjoy that...

Run / Hike 52:54 [3] 3.0 mi (17:38 / mi)
slept:6.0 shoes: Brooks Adrenaline (2017)

Neighborhood walk. Cold and dreary with light drizzle, but also several nice smells wafting around: a Santa Fe piƱon scent (from someone's fireplace?) and some dinner-cooking smells.
