Rocky Mountain State Games
My age-group course was Green, but I decided at the last minute to do Red. When I got to the Start, I could only find one Red map in the box, and I didn't want to take it from Gøril (since she was officially registered for Red). So I switched back to Green.
I second-guessed myself on the way to #3 and totally blew that control. I ran off the map and through an area where two redneck women were doing target practice (right off the road, in an area with zillions of ATVs and dirt bikes; am I wrong to think maybe they should've picked a more remote location...? Sheesh.)
I tended to deviate from the straight-line route quite often, sometimes intentionally to avoid climbing over hills -- and other times just due to poor route choice / poor execution (e.g. #4, #5 & #7). I wish I had stayed closer to the line on the way to #1, before turning left into the reentrant and heading up to the saddle.
It was a very fun course, though (set by Doug Berling), and I really like this map. I wish we had more maps and events at places like this, and fewer at the open and boring Cherry Creek / Chatfield / Bear Creek Lake Park-type areas.
