Run / Hike race (Red course) 1:27:52 [3] 4.47 mi (19:39 / mi)
slept:6.0 weight:126lbs shoes: Vasque Adrenaline

Red course at Peaceful Valley. We had such perfect weather (sunny and 70s), and that's such a nice area; I can't believe we only had about 20 people show up. I cringe when somone puts in all the work to set courses and then hardly anyone attends.

I had some small mistakes (#5), but nothing disastrous. I managed to stay exactly on my bearing on the super-long leg (1 km+) from #7 to #8. Then, somehow I ended up going almost 90° in the wrong direction on my way to #9. Maybe I wasn't concentrating much because I planned to let the fence corner catch me (and I never saw the fence corner).

Holy cow -- this is sobering news. We did the right thing by cutting-short our trip.

We planned to do another canyon today -- Fry Canyon, which has some Anasazi ruins. But, it rained all morning (which can be dangerous in a slot canyon).

So, we visited the Edge of the Cedars Museum ("pre-Colombian Pueblo Indian ruin"), and then drove to Mesa Verde. We did a short hike at Mesa Verde.

Cutest piece of Indian pottery ever:

Canyoneering with Troy in the North Wash Area near Hanksville, UT. The canyon was "Blarney, West Fork".

The distances on these canyons are really deceiving. It's hard to walk more than 10 or 20 meters without having to squeeze through a narrow section, down-climb, stem across something, or set-up a rappel. So, short distances take forever.
