This wasn't much easier than the Red loop -- still lots of steep uphills, which I walked.

Overall, a very fun experience.

Ragnar Relay in Angel Fire, NM. Green loop (#1).

I was the lead-off runner -- which initially made me nervous but turned out to be a good thing because (a) I wasn't out on the trail during the afternoon thunderstorm / hailstorm, and (b) I didn't have to wait around for hours before getting to actually run. Overall, my running sequence was great, since I got about six hours of sleep at night between my second and third loops. And, our team was pretty well matched in terms of speed (i.e., I was middle of the pack, not the slowest).

This was H-A-R-D. I ran the first half-mile but then quickly had to resort to running when I reached the steep singletrack trail. The first 3.2 miles were all UP, and I walked pretty much all of it. I couldn't go as fast as I would've liked on the downhill half, because it was steep, off-camber, slick from earlier rain, etc. Oh well.

I used Troy's Petzl Ultra headlamp, which worked great.

Red course at Round Mountain.

Things were going pretty well until #9. ARGH! I thought I was looking for a rocky knoll, but it was actually rocky ground. My tracks suggest that I was very close to it -- TWICE -- before actually spotting it.

A bit of wandering at #10.

For #13, it looks like I stayed on my bearing pretty well until the last minute -- and then I lost my concentration / lost contact with the map and wandered aimlessly.

I was very happy with the final approach to #16; I read the rocks well and hit it spot-on. Woot!

But then for the cliff at #17, as my brain was starting to fade, I misread the control description as "foot of" instead of "top of". And then I made a 180-degree error as I was leaving the control -- which added some extra steep climbing after I corrected myself. DOH!

No issues with 18-19-20.

Unfortunately, I got talked into doing control pickup and somehow lost my compass in the process. Note to self: I STILL HATE DOING CONTROL PICKUP. :-P

Two laps at Shanahan Ridge. I jogged the first lap except for the last 200 meters at the top; I walked almost all of the uphill sections on the second lap.
