Orienteering race (One-Cowboy Relay) 1:22:15 [3] 4.51 mi (18:14 / mi) +328ft 17:04 / mi
slept:8.0 shoes: Inov-8 Oroc 340

Laramie Daze -- Day 4

Sigh... I made a dumb mistake going to #1 (I stopped one reentrant short of where I needed to be), and my navigation didn't get much better from there. :-| I finished the rest of the first four short loops OK, if not super-precisely, but then I made lots of big and dumb errors on the final loop. "Lots of room for improvement." Routegadget

Orienteering race (Green course) 1:00:28 [3] 3.53 mi (17:08 / mi) +253ft 16:03 / mi
slept:8.0 shoes: Brooks Adrenaline (2013)

Laramie Daze -- Day 3

I tried really hard to catch Kris, but I couldn't do it! :-)

I didn't have any big meandering / wandering errors, but I was very slow and tentative in some spots.

Orienteering race (Green) 1:22:28 [3] 4.46 mi (18:29 / mi) +397ft 17:03 / mi
slept:8.0 shoes: Inov-8 Oroc 340

Laramie Daze -- Day 2

Green course at Pelican Bay. Lots of fun! On the two occasions where I felt like I had lost contact with the map (# 4 and # 9), someone came along to punch and the control was only 10-20 steps away. Whew! Routegadget

3 PM

Cycling (MTB) 1:30:12 [3] 6.77 mi (13:19 / mi) +633ft 12:14 / mi
shoes: Safire

MTB loop with Troy, in the Pole Mountain area. We went from the Visitors Center to Yellow Pine Campground, chatted with Kris, then biked (and walked) back. Oy vey -- the return trip was too steep for me... Very scenic trails, though.

Orienteering race (Red Course) 1:35:24 [3] 4.23 mi (22:33 / mi) +663ft 19:38 / mi
slept:4.0 shoes: Inov-8 Oroc 340

Laramie Daze -- Day 1.

This map had more green than I expected -- really thick, borderline impassable brush and lots of downed trees. But it was a fun course overall, and I didn't have any huge mistakes... Routegadget

Run / Hike long (Summer Training 2013) 2:12:10 [3] 10.16 mi (13:01 / mi) +456ft 12:29 / mi
slept:7.0 weight:127lbs shoes: Brooks Adrenaline (2013)

I was supposed to do a 13-mile run today. I couldn't go in the morning because I had an appointment, and I didn't want to go during the hottest part of the afternoon; so, I waited and went in the late afternoon. A little too late, apparently, because I ended up doing the last four miles in the pitch dark... I had anticipated doing maybe one mile in the dark, so I had a small flashlight in my CamelBak, thankfully. It was a little bit scary -- it's an isolated area and there wasn't a single other person out there. But luckily, the only wild creature I spotted was a fat frog sitting on the trail. And, since I knew it was getting dark and my stomach was mildly upset the whole time, I turned around at five miles and only did 10 total.

Singletree / Mayhoffer -- Cowdrey Draw -- Community Ditch, then back the same way with rain sprinkles and (distant) lightning.

Run / Hike hills (Summer Training 2013) 1:06:05 [3] 5.58 mi (11:51 / mi) +400ft 11:05 / mi
slept:8.0 weight:126lbs shoes: Brooks Adrenaline (2013)

- Jogged one mile to warm up.

- Three sets of "up and overs" at the Aquarius hill.

- Jogged one mile to cool down.

Orienteering race (ROGAINE) 6:30:15 [3] 14.36 mi (27:11 / mi) +1296ft 25:02 / mi
slept:5.0 shoes: Brooks Adrenaline (2013)

Six-hour Mini-ROGAINE in Pagosa Springs. I found 13 of the 26 controls, totalling 58 points, but I got lost on the way back and was 30 minutes past the time limit... (This USGS topo has wildly inaccurate trails and roads.)

I covered about one mile less than I did last year, but I mostly felt better about the navigation (I think it was a bit easier this year), and I wasn't in pain for the last two hours like I was last year. Fun overall. Troy won, Sharon was second place, and a few other RMOC people won prizes in the three-hour category.

Run / Hike long (Summer Training 2013) 2:37:24 [3] 11.3 mi (13:56 / mi) +361ft 13:31 / mi
slept:8.0 weight:126lbs shoes: Brooks Adrenaline (2013)

As part of my half-marathon training plan, I was supposed to do an 11.5-mile run 10 days ago. I *finally* managed to get it done today -- kind of -- at the Big Dry Creek Trail. This is the trail where the race will take place, but I started at the opposite end.

The way my meals and meetings worked out, the best time to go was at 2:00 pm -- the hottest part of the day (and did I go yesterday when it was 70s and overcast all day? NO!).

This felt hard from the get-go. And it didn't get any easier when I ran out of water at mile eight... I eventually stopped after finishing 10 miles, and walked the rest of the way back. I was fantasizing about big, tall glasses of water with crushed ice...cold waterfalls...jumping in the creek, etc. At about mile 11, some clouds and a breeze finally moved in. Too little, too late, mother nature!!!

Now I'm back at work and will be here 'til about 9 or 10 pm, to make up for my three-hour lunch break. :-P

Two laps at Dawson Butte, with Troy. Both laps CCW.

First laps (with two stops) was 40:33.

Second lap was 37:10.

Run / Hike hills (Summer Training 2013) 1:03:16 [3] 4.83 mi (13:06 / mi) +253ft 12:29 / mi
slept:6.0 weight:124.6lbs shoes: Brooks Adrenaline (2013)

- One-mile jog to warm up.

- Hill repeats x 10 (up the hill as far as possible in 60 seconds and then 120 seconds -- which was barely enough -- to jog back to the base of the hill).

- Half-mile jog and ~half-mile walk home to cool down.

Run / Hike (Summer Training 2013) 1:08:38 [3] 6.07 mi (11:18 / mi) +128ft 11:05 / mi
slept:6.0 weight:124.1lbs shoes: Brooks Adrenaline (2013)

- Half-mile jog to warm up.

- Five-mile progression run (start at half-marathon pace, and then each mile gets faster, finishing at 10-K pace). There was a *brutal* headwind for mile four (15-20 mph according to the Davidson Mesa weather station), so I gave up during that mile. Splits were: 11:43, 11:04, 10:33, 12:08, 9:19

- Half-mile jog to cool down.

Still feeling some aches and pains from my wipe-outs on Sunday.

Cycling 1:07:03 [3] 9.53 mi (7:02 / mi) +659ft 6:36 / mi
slept:10.0 shoes: Safire

Four laps at Hidden Mesa, with Troy.

On the first lap, I fell over at one of step-ups that I'm able to ride about 75% of the time. Then on the next lap, I did a full-on endo at one of the drops I've ridden over numerous times. That second wipe-out hurt -- I had a hard time moving my wrist for the rest of the night (it even hurt to squeeze the toothpaste tube before I went to bed...). :-P But it feels better today, and luckily I don't have any injuries that'll affect my wrunning plans..

Cycling 59:49 [2] 9.9 mi (6:03 / mi) +325ft 5:52 / mi
slept:8.0 weight:126.5lbs

First-ever Louisville Bike & Brew event. We met at Gravity Brewing in Louisville, then rode the Coal Creek Path to Front Range Brewing in Lafayette, then rode back to 12 Degree Brewing in Louisville. It was really fun -- but, at most I usually have one beer per night, and I think this excursion added up to 3-4 beers over several hours. I didn't feel so great when I got home that night, or yesterday, and still not feeling 100% right now (Saturday)... :-P I'll definitely do it again next month, but I'll have to do a better job of pacing myself!

On the downside -- this was an off-week for the LoCO FIT running group. I had three runs I was supposed to do on my own, and I skipped all of them (mainly so I could get caught up at work -- which I still didn't manage to do). I'm supposed to do 11.5 miles today, but I'm not sure I'm up for it. Sigh...
