100 walking lunges (modified CrossFit again).

These impressive ladies are kinda motivating....: http://media.crossfit.com/cf-video/CrossFit_Snatch...

Even though I hate indoor workouts in the winter, the new schedule at the local rec center has some cool options: Strength Training for Runners, a spin / weights combo class, and -- I'm hesitant to admit it -- this one sounds fun, too: "Zumba®: aerobic / fitness interval training with a combination of fast and slow Latin rhythms."

Something to look forward to when DST ends, anyway.

Strength / Stretching tempo 22:00 [1]
slept:6.0 weight:123lbs

Troy gave me a modified (greatly sissified) version of Sunday's CrossFit workout:

* Thrusters w/ 5-lb weights : (21 - 15 - 9) x 2
* Bent-over rows w/ 8-lb weights : (21 - 15 - 9 ) x 2

Run / Hike 4:08:29 [3] 6.76 mi (36:46 / mi) +3609ft 24:25 / mi
slept:8.0 weight:123lbs

This was a hike to Bear Peak with a side-trip to South Boulder Peak. The weather was perfect -- clear blue sky but not too hot. I jogged the first 40 minutes up, did a walk-jog combo for a while, and then just walked once I reached the steep and rocky section in Shadow Canyon.

When I left the house, I wasn't sure if I was going to do my usual three-mile loop at Shanahan Ridge or something longer. Well, this turned into "something longer", and, at the three-hour mark, I was sorely wishing I had packed some snacks. I kept trying to remind myself that I've eaten pizza four times in the past six days, and that I had a big chunk of chocolate cake after dinner last night -- so I should have plenty of reserves. But I was pretty hungry and completely fixated on the leftover chocolate cake I planned to eat when I got home (mission accomplished, btw).

I did the hike in reverse this time -- up Shadow Canyon and down Fern Canyon. It seemed to take a lot longer this way, even accounting for the side-trip to South Boulder Peak.

I jogged all the way down once I got out of the steep part of Fern Canyon. I've never been so happy to reach the nice, wide, smooth, gravelly surface of the Shanahan Trail! About ten minutes after I had that thought, I tripped (on absolutely nothing) and took a digger. I skinned my knee and bent the sunglasses that were in my CamelBak. At least that happened when I was only a half-mile from the car. And at least it happened out of sight of any other hikers.

Run / Hike hills 56:35 [2] 3.6 mi (15:43 / mi) +843ft 12:52 / mi
slept:8.0 weight:123lbs

I left work early so I could "summit" Bear Peak again. Then it proceeded to rain for about an hour. So, once the rain stopped, I decided to just do my usual three-mile loop at Shanahan Ridge (which is the lower part of the Bear Peak loop). The trail wasn't too muddy, and the rain had left behind a nice smell of pine, sage, and prairie grass.

I had to walk a bunch of the uphill parts the last time I did this loop; this time I was able to jog the whole thing. (Although most people can walk faster than I jog.) Maybe I was motivated by embarrassment over my complete lack of activity over the past few weeks.

AOWN: four fat frogs and a very cute lab puppy.

Soccer intervals (indoor) 22:00 [3]
slept:8.0 weight:123lbs

We had a great game but ended up losing 6-7. We had five subs, so I didn't get to run very much. In general, I've felt incredibly lazy for the past couple of weeks.

This was a fun game, but we lost 5-7.

Orienteering race (Sprint Relay "B") 21:35 [3] 1.55 mi (13:56 / mi) +230ft 12:13 / mi

I did the Sprint Relay with Troy and Mike. I followed the wrong train of runners to #2 and ended up at the wrong single tree. It was pretty easy after that...although maybe my route choice from #8 to #9 was not ideal (I was trying to avoid running up and down the little spurs).

Orienteering race (Green course) 3:17:23 [3] 6.97 mi (28:19 / mi) +1093ft 24:40 / mi

I was feeling pretty good about this until I totally blew it at #5 and #6. I almost quit after #6; I kept going, but I mostly just walked from that point onward. The steepness (especially towards the end) was really tough.

I kick myself for making such dumb mistakes. At #5, I got distracted by other people and the urge to "run not walk when other people are around" -- and I lost contact with the map as a result. At #6, I hit a stream and thought I was much lower than I actually was. So, once I got up on the ridge that was to be my handrail, nothing made sense after a few hundred meters, and I was TOTALLY lost. I should have realized I hit the stream way too early. It took me forever to relocate. Ugh.

Orienteering race (Green course) 1:11:50 [3] 3.52 mi (20:24 / mi) +459ft 18:10 / mi

I totally blew it on control #2 and then wandered around at #7 and #9. It was especially embarassing to get lost looking for the GO control in front of spectators...! In my defense -- the control circle perfectly covered the short curvy road on the map, so I didn't immediately realize I had to cross two roads to get to the control.

Orienteering race (Green course) 1:16:25 [3] 3.67 mi (20:49 / mi) +410ft 18:50 / mi
slept:6.0 weight:123lbs

Other than bobbling a little at #2 and then deviating way off course on my way to #7, I felt pretty accurate. I ended up finding #8 right as I started to realize I might have lost it on my way to #7. At least #8 helped me to instantly relocate, so maybe that was a good thing; several other runners were thrown off when they encountered a bunch of unmapped rocks on their way to #7.

Orienteering race (Green course) 1:27:31 [3] 4.69 mi (18:40 / mi) +820ft 16:01 / mi
slept:4.0

Day 2 -- Green course. I thought it went pretty well overall; my only wandering-aimlessly error was at #2. Things went OK after that. It was overcast, but still felt as hot and sweaty as yesterday.

Orienteering race (Green Course) 1:25:30 [3] 4.58 mi (18:40 / mi) +656ft 16:26 / mi
slept:6.0

Green course on Day 1 of the Colorado Five-Day Meet. One dumb error at #9, but otherwise OK.

Soccer intervals (outdoor) 45:00 [3]
slept:8.0 weight:124lbs

Lunchtime soccer. Holy cow -- I haven't played at lunchtime in quite a while, and I thought I was going to pass out in the heat. Ugh.
