Orienteering race (Red course) 2:13:55 [3] 5.64 mi (23:45 / mi) +876ft 20:42 / mi
slept:8.0 shoes: Brooks Adrenaline (2013)

- Huge mistake at # 5, where a few other people also had issues.

- My mistakes at # 7 (map reading) and # 11 (staying on compass bearing) were smaller but I still wasted time.

This map is still really enjoyable, despite all the tree cutting (I was expecting something much worse). It's semi-infuriating to see all the trash and abandoned campsites left in the woods by loser dirtbags.

A couple hours cleaning out the RMOC storage unit with Kris, and then an hour or so on emails and a tiny ONA ad revision.

Cleaning out the storage unit was FUN! It's something I've been wanting to do for a long time, and Kris finally took charge and made it happen.

The floor is visible! There's empty shelf space waiting to receive supplies! All 800 cups of various sizes and shapes are neatly sorted and bagged!

Orienteering race (Red course) 1:45:09 [3] 4.79 mi (21:57 / mi) +1010ft 18:18 / mi
slept:6.0 shoes: Brooks Adrenaline (2013)

Red course at Rainbow Falls. It's a beautiful (but steep) area, especially if you can block out the din of the dirtbikes, ATVs, and gunshots...

#1 -- no problem.

#2 -- I second-guessed myself and wasted time back-tracking on my way to #2.

#3 - 4 - 5 -- No problems.

#6 -- I contoured around to avoid some of the up-down, but it looks like I got a bit off-track after I crossed the fence.

#7 -- Looks like I could have contoured more, staying closer to the line, instead of going up and over the blob-shaped ridge.

#8 -- I deviated from the straight-line a bit too much once I hit the road / trail.

#9 -- Big mistake. Got WAY off my bearing and wasn't sure which way to go when I hit the reentrant. I guessed wrong and had to climb back up to the control...

#10 -- I went wide to avoid the cliffs and steep downhill, then I went wide again to climb up a less-steep part of the hill, using the boulders and pit as waypoints.

#11 - 12 - 13 - 14: No problems. Got a little disoriented trying to find the Finish...

Orienteering race (Red course) 1:49:37 [3] 5.41 mi (20:16 / mi) +1020ft 17:11 / mi
slept:6.0 shoes: Inov-8 Oroc 340

Red course in Buena Vista. Lukcily for me, Leif Anderson had already fixed the course setter's misplaced controls by the time I got to them. Most others on Brown, Green & Red weren't so lucky. :-|

I should've stayed closer to the straight-line for #1, but I'm happy with my route and execution for 1-2-3-4. My plan for #5 was to contour around and avoid up-down, but I probably went too far around. Happy with 6-7-8-9-10. For #11, I wanted a to aim off a bit so that I could turn left and use the trail junction as my attackpoint -- but I ended up going way too far west; I should've just skirted the tops of the two reentrants near the line. #12 was OK. #13 had what felt like a really steep climb, and I think my brain exhaustion led me to get way off my bearing. Then #13 and the finish.

I love this area / map and the weather was perfect.
