Run / Hike tempo 45:00 [2] 1.25 mi (36:00 / mi)
slept:8.0 weight:122lbs

Hiked out to South Canyon Point (at Castlewood Canyon), and then back.

Rock Climbing tempo (outdoor) 40:00 [3]

Climbed two 5.8s with Troy (well, the same 5.8 two times). He led, I top-roped.

Run / Hike tempo 35:03 [3] 3.1 mi (11:18 / mi)
slept:6.0 weight:122lbs

I finally dragged myself out for some exercise -- a jog at Davidson Mesa. It was windy but otherwise nice (mild & overcast). A blinding flash of the obvious: I guess I should expect it to *always* be windy on the top of an open, treeless mesa...

Strength / Stretching warm up/down 5:00 [1]

Stretching afterwards...

Soccer intervals (indoor) 35:00 [3]
slept:6.0 weight:122lbs

We beat the #2 team 8-7. It was a great game -- the opposing team is really good skills-wise, but not overly physical and rough. I'm starting to realize what a tremendous difference it makes to have a good goalie...

I blocked off some time tonight to play with my fantastic new (refurbished) Palm Treo 680, which I knew FedEx had dropped off on my porch at exactly 1:42pm this afternoon. I was very disappointed to discover that AT&T sent me the wrong f-ing SIM card, or upgraded my account in the wrong manner, or some crap. What a buzz kill.

Orienteering race (Red course) 2:43:46 [3] 4.52 mi (36:14 / mi)
slept:8.0 weight:122lbs

This activity started out as an orienteering course but, after I gave up in frustration, it ended as just a trail run to get back to the Start / Finish.

The control placements were ridiculous -- very low to the ground and sometimes concealed by brush. Their accuracy was also questionable.

Only TWO people actually finished the Red course, so I don't feel that bad about giving up. Even Sverre and Plamen DNF'd... I'm curious to hear Ratlaf's impressions, if he was there.

The weather and scenery were great, at least. Mike, Troy and I stuffed ourselves with good I-talian food afterwards.

Soccer intervals (outdoor) 1:00:00 [3]
slept:8.0 weight:122lbs

I finally made it back out to lunchtime soccer. Woo-hoo! I had two solid one-touch goals and a few assists. It was 4-v-4, which was great; with the usual mob of 12-v-12, I hardly have time to look up for a pass before four defenders converge and steal the ball...

One guy kept griping about our team being offsides -- which was occasionally true, but, come on, no one's out there trying to screw the other team; being offsides just happens. After griping for a while, he literally took his ball and went home!

Strength / Stretching tempo 36:43 [1]
ahr:109 max:141

I decided to give the "latin fitness class" a try. It was fun, but I barely broke a sweat and my HR never got very high. It wasn't really much of a workout...

Soccer intervals (indoor) 25:00 [3]
slept:8.0 weight:122lbs

The consequences of my disgusting lack of activity lately were apparent tonight: I was totally sucking wind and my quads hurt after just a few minutes. That hasn't happened since I first picked up soccer again about a year ago. Ugh. Time to stop being lazy.

On the upside, we won 6-5.

Orienteering race 1:03:01 [3] 2.72 mi (23:10 / mi)
slept:8.0

I did Orange, the longest course offered at today's Bear Creek Lake Park meet. I repeatedly chose to bushwhack through thick, marshy brush -- which was unbelievably stupid. I knew it was stupid the first time I did it, and then for some reason I did the same thing on four or five more legs. I'm not a fan of that park as an orienteering venue anyway (it's open and urban), and crappy route choices that resulted in muddy, water-logged shoes didn't do anything to improve my outlook. Blah.

Orienteering race 1:19:00 [3] 3.94 mi (20:03 / mi)
slept:8.0 weight:122lbs

This was a 27-control Score-O at Fox Run Regional Park. I overshot the second-to-last control by quite a ways, but that was my only mistake. Oh, and I had a small route-choice error / oversight on one control. All in all, I was pretty happy to not have any major screw-ups!

Run / Hike tempo 10:00 [3]
slept:0.0 weight:122lbs

Running from the economy lot to the terminal (no shuttles in sight), for my 5:30am flight. No sleep whatsoever. Ugh.

Note

I've been in a training class all week in the Denver Tech Center. The class was really good ("SAS Programming II"), but the hour+ commute each way really killed my motivation to do any exercise by the time I finally got home each day. Ugh. I can't believe some people do that type of commute on a regular basis. Thank goodness for my usual 15-minute drive or 35-minute bike ride...!

Orienteering race 3:21:29 [3] 8.05 mi (25:02 / mi)
slept:8.0

I had hoped to do the entire course cleanly, even if I didn't do it quickly. The first part went well (three short & easy loops). But, on the long part, I totally blew it at #1 and #5, with smaller (but still dumb) errors at #4 and #22. Once I realized I wouldn't make the time cut-off, I decided to short-cut the course and just concentrate on being accurate.

It rained a bit, which was a nice reprieve from the hot sun.

Generally, the course was lots of fun although I was disappointed with my poor concentration and lack of accuracy.

GPS tracks.

The control placements were ridiculous -- very low to the ground and sometimes concealed by brush. Their accuracy was also questionable.

Only a small handful of people actually finished the Red course, so I don't feel so bad for giving up. Even Sverre bailed out...

The weather and scenery were great, at least. Mike, Troy and I stuffed ourselves good Italian food afterwards.
