Junior Squad training at Wits. Nic organized some great activities. I walked the first and last one and sat out the middle one. Enjoyed the first one a lot. It was map memory- transferring important info from map to paper for individual legs. We then had to use our map to get around the course.

I'm feeling better today and not coughing as much. No training this week though, no matter how good I feel. Time to get better and stay healthy!

At Zoo Lake. I wasn't feeling so hot this morning. Breakfast didn't want to go down. It was a runners course and I was slow. Also had a few small mistakes. Almost went from #5 to #9 because of the course layout and almost missed the gap in the fence to #2. Was 7th I think.

Was an awesome but tough experience. I was racing with Greg and Daniel. They are machines and we took the whole thing pretty seriously. We ran the short run at a crazy pace. Then we did the MTB nav leg. My nav skills were seriously tested as we were cruising but I managed to make few mistakes. I was on tow after 4 or so CP's and from then on we moved much faster. We collected all the OP's and I went into the run feeling okay. We weren't moving very quickly but were going at a consistent pace. I started to die a bit on the way to OP2. On the way to the cave we had a 'we aren't going to make the cut-off if we go for OP3-6 debate'. We ended up going for them and the cut-off was extended so we were okay. We didn't manage to find one of the OP's though and I was a bit dead at that stage so not much help. The marked MTB leg was tough. We were all cramping for the first bit but Daniel and I got to chill while Greg was abseiling so we felt better on the way back. My legs cramped hectically on the swim but I managed not to drown;-). All in all a good race. Quite a few new things to deal with but definitely learned a lot.

One problem I had was trying to get food down. I just didn't feel like eating and I also didn't drink enough. Didn't manage to eat much for the rest of the day. Also got pretty sunburnt

At Brescia. Probably one of the coolest sprint courses I've ever done. There was so much variety and I felt good. The first 2 controls were quite intense in the buildings then we headed down the hill to the river. I managed to plan ahead well and the nav in the park area was relatively easy so no problems there. Felt surprisingly good up the hill then headed into the school for some super intense navigation. It was awesome and I was moving well. I finished 4th. Tania won in 22. Loads of fun!

#18 caused a bit of debate. I went the 'proper' way, back past #2, so didn't cross anything illegal. The top 3 women went through an underpass and across a solid black line. The map was a bit unclear I suppose but I took the rather be safe than disqualified approach. I lost about 30 seconds on it but it didn't cost me a position so no point in causing a fuss.

Had cricket. We focused on fielding. Practice seemed really long and once again it was hot.

I had a nice, comfortable run. Was feeling a bit dead before the race so the plan was to not look at my watch. I ran at a relaxed pace then managed to picked it up a bit after the hill around 7km. There were loads of people, but cool atmosphere as usual.

Wore my GPS to training. I wanted to see how far I run because it never seems like we do much. I did 3.58km. Structure was similar to Tuesday. We did some fun sprints at the end.

Had about 50 people today. We did a 10 min warm up then stretched. We then jogged around the lower grounds for 15 minutes and did 6* 80m sprints on the fields. Finished off with some squats and lunges.

So now I'm doing Diamond Dash on the 20th! Wasn't planning to but the Avierinos team wanted a team mate. I've got a feeling it's gonna hurt. 50km is rather far...

At Groenkloof. I was impressed with my legs. Haven't exactly done much cycling lately but I managed to ride at a good, consistent pace. Made a few navigation errors early on but was riding smoothly towards the end. Really enjoyed my ride.

Training at Golden Harvest. Nic organized some fun exercises. Started with a line course. Next we did a map memory thing. We had to transfer a course from a Danish map to a blank one which was 10m away. The last exercise was intervals. 250-500-750m pyramid with 90s rest between intervals. I was paired up with Jess H. Felt really slow and died on the last 2 but managed to navigate smoothly.

Had a decent warm up and crawled/walked the warm down.
I'm not feeling 100% yet but I think I'm mostly over my cold. Managed to catch up on some sleep last night.

I woke up feeling awful this morning. My cold is back. Guess it was stupid to start training so soon after I felt better last week and racing so hard yesterday. I went to the doctor and have got an antibiotic. No training for the rest of the week.
