Running race (3 peaks fell race ) 4:02:59 [4] 37.8 km (6:26 / km) +1563m 5:20 / km
Set off at a good place slowly picking people off on the first climb and decent and getting up into a good pack of fast guys and people I'd be racing for the u25 top places we were setting about 3 hour 30 pace by half way and on the long flat section between Pen-y-Ghent and Whernside I new I was pushing and that I should probably be holding back a little more but my brain was saying its a race your supposed to push. The climb up whernside was crazy and almost vertical so was a 20 minute power hiking slog which meant upon getting to the top the legs were cold and took a while to get going again so I dropped a few places here and started to fall back off the early pace then came the climb up Ingleborough and and my head was spinning don't know weather it was lack of energy or water but took it easy over to the check point then gathered all my strength for the 8km downhill to the finish gritting my teeth and begging myself not to stop, about 4km from the finish the cramp set it in the calf muscles and it was all about riding the pain train as there was no way of getting out of it until crossing the finish line. Didn't quite get my sub 4 hour goal but that early pace was hard and being the youngest person in the race and keeping up for the most part is encouraging as I've still got 6 more years in this u25 category.
