Orienteering (Robert Burnaby Park) 1:04:21 [3] ** 7.0 km (9:12 / km)

Estimated distance.

GVOC weekend event - but all on trails. Made a few route errors of several minutes, probably 4-5 minutes in total.

Yoga 1:30:00 [0]

First time ever - back and core really felt good afterwards, should make this more of a routine.

Big 5-O sprint competition.

Actual time for 2.7 km course = 25:59. Distance I ran was 4.08 km, so made quite a few bad route choices.

Plus a mispunch. Got turned around at control 4 and went to the wrong control (108 instead of 109).

Felt like I had a good race, but even without the mispunch I was several minutes behind the people I was beating (or close to) the previous days.

Really need to work on 1) speed 2) less major blunders and 3) recognizing which walls I can cross to get better at sprints. Number 2) isn't very useful ...

Day 4 of Big 5 O, middle distance.

Course length 4.4 km. Track contains warm-up, actual course time was 1:28:05

Quite a bad race. Terrain didn't have great visibility for the most part and my orienteering was so bad that I wasn't even tired at the end because I had been unable to push myself physically as I had so many breaks due to navigation errors.

First major mistake on control 3 was a 15-16 minute mistake. Was actually not far off course but didn't notice that there were two hills and just ignored my compass for the moment and navigated with the wrong hill (which was my attackpoint. Was unable to work out what happened until after the race. Problem = tunnel vision.

Held the map upside-down leaving control 8 and ran the wrong way for a while.

A ten minute error on control 12, although that one bugs me as I felt I planned and executed the leg well but the control was in a very low vis area without a distinguishing feature. I walked within 5 metres of it several times in my wandering. I guess it was testing fine contour control but it also ended up being alot of luck.

A few minor mistakes - on controls 5, 6, 8, 10, 15 that were the result of not reading the map carefully enough right around the control, so lost a bit of time on all of those.
Quite a bad race.
