running 50:00 [4]

The "bushwhacker" - a 20k trail race where cutting corners is allowed. Had a great QOC turn-out and comradery, which made the race extra fun. Wasn't sure how I'd handle the distance, so started out comfortably, taking slightly shorter, quicker strides than I would on a shorter run and generally just trying to stay relaxed. Legs were feeling OK but not too great on the ups. By the halfway I was tiring a little, so I just kept on going the way I had been, not trying to push it. Then after the last checkpoint I was actually starting to feel pretty good, and definitely had something left in the tank to hammer the last mile along the trail. Unfortunately I "hammered" straight ahead where the trail we were supposed to follow switched back, despite my being paranoid of taking the wrong trail and losing it here... So probably lost 2.5 minutes and two places just a half-mile from the end. Frustrating, but part of the game. Overall, really fun, and I was pleasantly surprised by how well I handled it physically.

Note to any Australian readers - in US English "bushwhacking" means bushbashing. But I'm not sure what the US word for being bushwhacked is...

kayaking 1:14:00

Went down to the boathouse a little early and did 5 k before the session started. It was supposed to be 2 200s, 2 500s and 2 1000s, the first at 80% and the second at 100%. But I felt pretty empty, and by the 1000s had all but hit the wall. Tried to go 100% on the 200 and 500, but then just tried to finish the distance. Not quite sure why I felt so bad...
In total it was 90 minutes on the water.

other cardio (eliptico) 10:00 [3]

strength (gym) 1:13:00 [2]

A bit of a half-hearted session, probably due to getting very little sleep the last couple of nights. Kind of wanted to mix it up and do somehting new, but didn't quite have enough motivation. Maybe next week! Overall, not bad though.

cycling 1:10:00 [3]

Usual loop, but not pushing it. Tried to keep a good cadence.

kayaking 45:00

Stopped at WCC to get out on the water, since I'll miss tonight's session. Perfect conditions, and feeling like I can just about put down full power now in the blue boat. 1k warm-up, then 4 sets of 500 hard, 500 hesitation paddling, then 1k warm-down. Nice session, but arms a little tired from the gym (which at least indicates something I'm doing in the gym is relevant).

running 46:00

Felt like going for a run along the mall after work, and legs were surprisingly cooperative. Ran over the 4th-5th block and did 6 reps of the long sides, jogging the short sides (didn't have a watch, but I guess 75-80 secs per rep). Then ran back to the Capitol an did 3 reps up the front lawn slope, then ran up and around and back to the office to get my bike. Fun.

kayaking 1:10:00

Slightly longer warm-up than usual, then 5 by 1k, then easy warm-down. Feeling good, and more aggressive and confident than I have for a fair while.
