Fitness track 53:00 [3]

Was the best run I've had for ages. I think this is because it was 4 degrees and sunny (mostly on the other side of the mountain, though). There was a relatively soft breeze, you could smell the forest and there weren't so many people about doing funny ski exercises as normal. It honestly reminded me of going out for a run on a warm Summer morning in Adelaide.

Fitness track 54:00 [3]

15 minutes on the stations.

cycling 50:00 [3]

Rode from Stuttgart to Esslingen. Pretty short ride, but it was -5 and for some reason my wind-proof gloves are no longer wind-proof. Had to stop a few times to warm up the fingers.

Fitness track 53:00 [3]

This time I knew where the fitness stations were, so spent maybe 12 minutes on them. This time I was wearing a long sleeve top and some gloves (plus shorts!), which made it even nicer than last time.

Fitness track 51:00 [3]

Ran over to the nearest bit of forest in Stuttgart and then around a bit, searching out a couple of wooden exercise stations along the way for some sit-ups/upper body exercises. Mostly running, though. Bloody nice to be running through forest, even if it was -3 and I was wearing shorts and a t-shirt.

OK session. I haven't felt like I've been working hard lately, but I think it's probably just coz the gym's been a decent temperature so I haven't been sweating like an English pig. I've never been so hot and sweaty training ever in Australia as in the gym in Oxford.

Note

Was supposed to go to Germany today but the flight was cancelled due to the fog. Instead of drinking mulled wine at the Weihnachtsmarkt I get to hang out in a foggy, freezing Oxford. Wahey!

running 41:00 [3]

Average kind of a run. Could finally run back along the river as the flooding has subsided. Was also a bit cold today - 0 degrees at midday, so the mud was a bit frozen, which was nice.

Tuesday Dec 19, 2006 #

Note

Took another day off today. Am really trying to make myself feel better ASAP. Have been eating like I've run a marathon, though.

strength 1:01:00 [3]

Although my legs have been tired lately, I've felt OK in the gym - unti today! Felt tired and weak, cut some things short. I know I should have a good break, but, for example, I'm really looking forwards to going for a run tomorrow and don't want to miss it ... I think the trouble is I haven't been sick for ages, so have had no forced rests.

cycling 1:25:00 [3]

Relatively short Sunday ride. Just taking it easy as I still don't feel so energised. Felt OK on the ride, though.

Saturday Dec 16, 2006 #

strength 1:05:00 [3]

Cut the warm-up a couple of minutes short again. Rowing on an erg is just the most boring thing I could imagine. Felt OK today, but was maybe able to do a few less reps than ussual of a couple. Haven't been eating too good lately with all the Oxford Christmas goings on etc, so that might have something to do with it.

cycling 57:00 [2]

Just taking it easy. I think I'll more or less forget about cycling until the new year now and take a couple of weeks off.

Thursday Dec 14, 2006 #

strength 1:04:00 [3]

Only did half the warm-up and then some weights. The fact that the whole thing took the same time as ususal shows how slow I was taking the weights.

Wednesday Dec 13, 2006 #

Note

Totally hit the wall today, even before I'd got out of bed. My body feels like I've done successive rogaines on nothing but caffeine and now I'm coming down. Need a break but was hoping I would last until my Christmas hols. I just checked and it's been 40 days since my last proper rest-day. Most probably a bit too long.

running 40:00 [3]

Legs were a little tired. I was running in thed ark so had to stick to roads - found a hill which was nice, but I guess I'll be sore tomorrow. Feeling a bit flat, so should maybe have a rest tomorrow.

Was under a bit of time pressure this morning so cut the warm-up a bit short (so sad I couldn't sit on one of those crappy rowing ergs for another couple of minutes - is anything more boring?). Was actually a pretty good session.

cycling 1:55:00 [3]

Every time I go out for a ride these days I feel weaker than the time before. And less motivated. Kinda enjoyed about 50% of this ride, though. Am wishing I was not female cycling captain for the next 8 months ... (though it may be the only thing that stops me from turning into a slobby student).

Also, there's nothing better than coming back from a ride in the cold and rain to cook up and eat some "christmas pud" style porridge. Mmmm.

Saturday Dec 9, 2006 #

strength 1:04:00 [3]

Kinda average.

Friday Dec 8, 2006 #

cycling 53:00 [2]

Was thinking I almost felt like a rest day, but when I looked outside and there wasn't a breath of wind I couldn't not go out for a ride. I wish I hadn't, though, as I felt absolutely rotton - legs couldn't push and I just felt like falling asleep and going back to bed, so I cut it short.

Thursday Dec 7, 2006 #

strength 1:04:00 [3]

Felt OK, but couldn't do as many reps as in the last couple of times. I definitely notice a monthly peak in my strength now, though never noticed when I was just running.

running 43:00 [3]

Was pretty tough (or more likel I am pretty weak). As well as being muddy and half flooded it was still pretty dark and was really windy (again! I am sick of commenting). I've never had such a fight to run into a wind and was quite exhausted by the time I got home.

Just checked (out of interest)- winds 25 mph with 40 mph gusts

Monday Dec 4, 2006 #

strength 1:06:00 [3]
weight:62.5kg

Felt like I wasn't really doing much, even though it was same as usual and I tacked a bit on the end. Have made some gains in strength lately, which is nice, but my R elbow related injuries have been a bit annoying lately.

Sunday Dec 3, 2006 #

cycling 2:14:00 [3]

Pretty steady ride up around Combe etc. The wind was very strong, bordering on dangerous from the side - probably about 30 mph plus gusts. Fun. Legs were a bit tired to start with, but didn't get any worse during the ride.

Saturday Dec 2, 2006 #

strength 1:04:00 [3]

Felt much better today.
