strength (gym) 1:00:00 [2]
weight:61.5kg

Reasonable session. For the record, niggling injuries presently include
1. Bruised coccyx (still pretty sore!)
2. Pulled muscle over the front of my right hip
3. Dodgy nerve thing in right wrist
Am kinda expecting them to go away without any effort on my part. Unlike my sore knee - am contemplating surgery for that :-(

Note
(rest day)

Woke up an hour after I was supposed to be at work then realised the front tyre of my bike was flat. So basically that ate up my training time for the day. Just meant I brought the planned rest day forward one.

running 36:00 [3]

Wanted to head out to Shotover again today but it was getting late and I started trying to decide what to do. It was turning into one of those days where I was probably going to end up doing nothing so just went for a short run around the parks just before dark. Knee was demanding my attention by the end. Have been feeling pretty flat psychologically the last week or so - hopefully I won't stress myself sick again!

cycling 1:20:00 [3]

Took the train out to Moreton-in-Marsh and rode to Stratford. Very nice ride, but seemed to be mostly downhill?!

cycling 1:15:00 [3]

Stratford to Evesham. This time had a bit of a headwind so my legs felt sufficiently tired by the end. Beaut weather though, and really nice to be cycling somewhere different for a change.

running 38:00 [3]

Ran over to South Parks, around a bit and back home. In the sun. Felt not bad and better than expected, but feel a bit of a lack of fitness compared to 3-4 weeks ago.

strength (gym) 1:00:00 [2]

Didn't really feel like it in the beginning and thought of stopping, but then realised I didn't really feel like doing anything else either, so kept going.

Now that my only strength goal is to "not become as weak as I was when all I did was running and riding" I can definitely detect a little more slacking off happening ...

cycling 1:20:00 [3]

Not the nicest ride. For one thing I had really sore coccyx from trying to be tricky on my bike last night, so spent as much time as possible off the seat and trying to avoid bumps. Also thought I'd try a different route, but spent ages getting out of the city either sitting at traffic lights or fearing for my life. Went home - Kennington, Boars Hill, Bessels Leigh, Cumnor - home. On the positive side, it reminded me why it's worth the 50 pounds per month to live in Marston rather than Kennington. Started out full of energy, but that had died away by the half-way mark and I rode the rest unremarkably. However, it did finally click that the Boars Hill dragon is just an incinerator!

running 27:00 [3]

Ran from home around the parks and then to the LMH sports grounds. Did 6 sprints, with jog recovery, duration of efforts being 32, 37, 38, 35, 37 and 35 seconds, with about 90 secs recovery. Then jogged home.

Nice to be running again, and the intervals were fun. 30 secs is defo my favourite duration for intervals (short enough that you can run fast enough for it to feel fun - much longer and you're not running fast plus it hurts for longer). Shame it's probably too short to be any use for orienteering.

running 8:00 [2]

Note

Just noticed that SA only had 3 girls running in the schools champs. Sad.

(rest day)

Just to make sure I'm all better...

cycling 1:30:00 [3]

Spent most of the day trying to get my road bike in working order again but just made it worse. Took out my trusty steel steed instead for a loop to Brill hill (but not up) and back just as it was getting dark. Felt pretty decent and wasn't cruising, but was still slow of course.

Note: noticed whilst in Oz that the bikes I was riding all felt like the pedals were different distances apart. For reference, here are the "Q-factors":
Oz roadie - 150mm
Dad's MTB - 174mm
Trusty steed - 180mm
Ox roadie - 144mm

Most comfortable was my Oz roadie. Knee seems to hurt most on Dad's MTB and Ox roadie, which doesn't really help me determine if the Q-factor is the X-factor as far as knee pain is concerned.

Feeling OK now. Would so love to be running nationals this week!

running 30:00 [2]

Got sick of not going out for what has to be one of the nicest weather weeks ever in Oxford. It's funny how whenever we get a nice day in Oxford it reminds me of Adelaide ... Feeling a bit better as well so thought I'd try a little jog around the parks. Not feeling stellar towards the end, but hopefully will recover OK this time.

Some easy stuff at home.

Note
(sick)

Feel so tired today with sore and sticky lungs :-(

Monday Sep 15, 2008 #

cycling 50:00 [2]

Feeling much better today so just rode easy out to the supermarket and back (wouldn't normally log it). Definitely low on energy on the return, and was wishing I hadn't gone quite so far. Heart rate seemed a little high as I was lying in bed a couple of hours later.

Sunday Sep 14, 2008 #

Note
(sick)

Feeling mostly better today, just tired, but will need to take it easy for a few days yet.

Friday Sep 12, 2008 #

Note
(sick)

Fever, crappy.

Thursday Sep 11, 2008 #

Note
(sick)

About an hour after the gym session yesterday started sneezing, and by the time I hit bed already had a very sore throat and dodgy nose. Feel pretty crappy today, but hopefully it'll go away as fast as it came!

cycling 3:00:00 [3]

From Beer to Exeter. Found some absolutely awesome little lanes/villages, quintessentially English! Once again, not sure why it took quite so long. It's not far, but very up and down along the coast. Found a nice route into Exeter St Davids which was a pleasant surprise. Legs felt pretty good in general, but were tired by the end. I've definitely been a little surprised how decent I felt on the bike given how little riding I've been doing lately. I was definitely a bit slower, but that wasn't exactly a concern this weekend.

Sunday Sep 7, 2008 #

running 54:00 [3]

Run along the coastal path from Beer to Seaton and a bit further, and back. 80 percent of this run was either straight up, straight down, on cement or on pebbles, so didn't really feel like much of a workout because it was so different to "normal" running. Decided I had to try running on the pebble beaches and found it quite different to sand. It's generally easier, but a lot more unstable and harder to just relax.

cycling 3:10:00 [3]

Touring from Taunton to Beer. I expected this to take about 1.5 hours, but for some reason it took much longer. It started raining after about 10 k and didn't stop, but other than that it was a nice ride. Made a few accidental detours, and found some nice hills, but legs were glad by the end to be able to stop.

strength (gym) 45:00 [2]

Only 45 mins until the gym closed.

running 11:00 [5]

Track session. Before I even started I noticed that I forgot my running shorts, so had to run in soaking wet cargo shorts instead. Also forgot my ventolin, and didn't really feel like I could get a proper lung-full the whole run. Aside from that, wasn't too bad, but didn't have an awful lot of "bounce". Was a bit embarrassing running so slow in cargos and an o-top when there were a couple of hurdlers in GB tops prancing around on the grass verges. Had to keep ignoring the little voice telling me to cut the session short.
200 in 41, 1.19 recovery
400 in 91, 2.19 rec
600 in 138, then ran out of splits. Something like
400 in 89,
600 in ?
400 in 89
200 in 42
with 400 jog recovery between each effort

running 25:00 [3]

warm up and down. Rolled my L ankle on the warm-up but it seemed OK after.

running 15:00 [1]

Recovery between fast bits

strength (knee strength) 10:00 [3]

A bit tough in wet cargos, but still possible.

Wednesday Sep 3, 2008 #

cycling 1:10:00 [3]

WB loop. Legs felt OK but just not as strong as a month or two ago. I've barely even got a tan-line and Summer's already over! Very windy today but the hedgerows helped take the edge off.

A bit shaky by the end - needed some food.
