Arrived for the time trial of the squad. Not sure what to expect, I have been in off form so hopefully, I can keep it together. Warm up on the course and recce . Slippy traverse uphill and I am hoping my footing will hold.
Dropping down to a small stream and back uphill. Seems short enough but only in my warm up my heart rate is already, I hope I survive this in more than one way

Trail Running race 28:38 [5] 4.9 km (5:51 / km) +70m 5:27 / km
ahr:172 max:178 shoes: Inov8 Oroc

It reminded me of my old days of cross country racing. It was tough and I am not sure how I will get my heart rate down at stuff like this.
I might have taken off a tat too fast. caught Zac O on his second lap. I was ok on the uphill sections in lap one but as longer as it went on the more I caved in.
I didn't want to fall so I may not have committed fully either. Downhill running was at nearly 100% capacity.

Overall I know what I have to work on but I knew that before coming here. I guess my hills at home will see me more often.

This afternoon there is sprint training which is nice and it happens on the UCD grounds. Naill put something together. He added extra boundaries so I was trying to be careful and mindful of them.
But as usual, I had a hard time making out these details. So I order a magnifier for my compass and see how this will work out.

Overall this is still new to me so I am very happy to get some training in.
I really enjoy to see others at work and learn. Also, it is really awesome to run fast around the building and it feels like you are floating. Then, you look around and there are other mad people floating around you like yourself

I decided to go to the Irish squad time trial Saturday morning to get an idea where I am at. This going to be interesting, 1min starting interval and I assume I have to punch SI units while try to run fast on an unmarked 1.4km loop.

Got me some spike shoes cheap for XC running and decided to find a pitch to do some sprint laps.

Old school....

So tonight was fitting the bill, semi-dark, misty weather and there I was a nearly perfect circular track in a field nex to the soccer pitch, just for me.

All that was missing was a Black and white film set ...

Anyways I decided to get some feel for speed and my overall condition since I was hackling with something my body couldn't quite shift.
Felt, good and fast. So I want to continue to build that into my weekly routine and hopefully, it will make me stronger and faster.

Warm up followed by 4*200, followed by 2 steady laps, followed by 3*300, followed by warm down.

For control 1, I decided going straight would have been too messy for me and too slow that's why I went in a little late.
For C2, I overshot that and went as far as the track to re-orientate and looked back to see the control then.
I was a little hesitant to drop into c6 so that could have gone more fluent.
For c8 I made the mistake not to trust the compass. It told me to stay higher up but I ignored that, lesson learnt.
C8 was tricky alright with the fallen trees. I figured they would not put the controls into that mess but would have it somewhat approachable. 7-8 I actually followed my compass blindly and that worked.
c9, I wanted to get a bit if running in so that is why I stayed on the track for a little longer.
I was considering going straight to c11 from c10 but thought I would be faster for me to take the trail. I could see the control 12 fairly earlier so that's why that straight line.
Was trying to stay high up to c13 for better running progress but found it hard to find the correct attack point.
Was hesitating too much to hit c15, that should have gone faster.
To C16 I aimed off as I was not too sure what I should use as an attack point. I used the trail to the south as a marker to drop into c16.
C19/c20 I just had a blank as I said. I left 18 and was trying to head for c19, I am not sure if I actually passed it or not. Then headed up onto the road to re-orientate, north to that stream, to evtl. get to c20 thinking that to be 19. Realised it wasn't and backtracked to 19, then I thought well this kind of looks familiar but could not remember punching it. So after that, I went to c20 being totally exhausted at this point. I wanted to give up. C21 wasn't a problem then I thought head to the trail north of c21 to follow it to c22 but I thought I don't have the energy so arsed around to the main trail. Cut through to C22 by compass. Which work fine btw so I thought might as well finish it now.
