Orienteering 19:12 [3]

NSW sprint champs at Pyrmont. Challenging course making good use of a great location. Had a fairly clean run and felt like I was reading the map well. Hesitated a little on the tricky legs of 13 & 14, and slowed somewhat near the end. Looks like the days of routinely beating Tim might be over - he won 3-0 this weekend - topping that off by taking 10s out of me on the finish control today.

Thanks to the organisers for 2 great events. Really good excuse for a weekend in Sydney - lots of shopping, eating, drinking and sightseeing involved too!

Orienteering 14:05 [3]

Sydney uni sprint 1. Fun area and good course with lots of quick decision making required. Started off fairly well but slowed a bit by the end. Lost about 20sec on 15 where I had trouble committing and then didn't read the stairs properly. Needed to dodge lots of zombie-hunters.

Orienteering 14:37 [3]

Sydney uni sprint 2. Chasing start based on the results of the first sprint. Started 10s in front of Barbara Hill and then it was about 90sec back to Mace and a group chasing her. Lost a bit of time on 2&3 so failed to increase my lead and Barbara was right behind me to 10. Missed the shortest route choice on 11 so lost the lead at that point. Raced hard to catch up and we traded the lead a bit in the last couple of controls. Barbara hit the last control just before me but wasn't sure of the punch so came back for it, giving me the lead. It was great fun to have such a tight battle.

Barron Gorge National Park. Incredibly slow going as shown by the km rate. Part of that was me not feeling particularly energetic after yesterday, but mostly it was the very steep hills and rough tracks. Went up Douglas track, to Glacier Rock, and came back down Smith's track. I think it might be better doing it in the reverse direction. Nice views - accidently timed it perfectly to watch the train heading up the opposite side of the valley.
