Event: RHINO 5

6 PM

Orienteering 40:23 intensity: (10 @0) + (1:00 @1) + (1:29 @2) + (27:51 @3) + (9:53 @4) 4.38 km (9:13 / km) +136m 7:59 / km
ahr:168 max:185

Wowzer, you can tell it's been a long time since I did Night O. No distance judgement, poor confidence and generally hesitant. Lucky for me I had an enormo light and the reflective tags were super bright, so there were only two times when it really came apart. The first was at a7, where I felt like I'd gone forever but had actually only gone about 50m, so I faffed around at the first path instead of the second. The second time I crossed a path without realising and went too far east, was running a long a kind of trail that stopped in a big marsh. Eventually realised and had to go back out to AP and reattack, then it worked fine. Lost a lot of time there though. A lot of fun out there, it's a shame we don't get more chances to get out in the woods at night, but I'm still scared of bears.

Edit: Must have been running slowly, as lost more on control 9 extra loop then AP thinks I lost altogether!

Running towards East Rock. Hamstring a bit niggly. Not amazing.
4 PM

Cross Fit 40:04 intensity: (16:24 @0) + (15:57 @1) + (2:47 @2) + (3:47 @3) + (1:09 @4)
ahr:114 max:182

Pairs workout number two. Rob was here today and you did 30 secs AMRAP kettle bell swings (35#), 30s box jumps (20), 30 secs rowing, then rested while the other person went. Three times each. Went up to intermediate weight on the kettlebell and it was significantly harder to retain form than with the 26#. Nice way to end a Friday, after a successful yet somehow still frustrating week.

Cycling 35:23 intensity: (6:22 @0) + (28:09 @1) + (50 @2) + (2 @3)

Back home. Interrupted a racoon party. Five of them having an amazing time in a garden. It was great.

Cross Fit 47:36 intensity: (17:01 @0) + (17:07 @1) + (4:05 @2) + (8:54 @3) + (29 @4)
ahr:121 max:180

Ashley, Jason and Dana came to Cross Fit for Bring a Friend Day. I paired up with Ashley and after lots of drills and things we did a 12 minute AMRAP of 10m bear crawl and 6 press ups. You rested while your partner did theirs. We got through 16 reps each, which was pretty good. Ashley was great. Fun session. Afterwards we were playing around on the bars and I KIPPED MY FIRST PULL UP! Yey! I get to join the Pull Up Club now!

Very easy jog towards work. I was achey. And now I'm extra sleepy tired. Early night.

Cross Fit 1:10:57 intensity: (32:39 @0) + (27:13 @1) + (1:59 @2) + (4:25 @3) + (4:41 @4)
ahr:108 max:184

Today did not go well. I needed things from other people and they were not timely (I always enjoy the annual physical, where I get to sit awkwardly in a small locked room wearing only a paper waistcoat while the too busy doctor eventually gets round to seeing me) and it dragged on and on. So instead of the planned run home I got a lift with George to Cross Fit, then ran home. The workout was fun - some deadlifts which was alright, then 3 sets of 50 double unders (16 continuous is my new record, yey!), 15 sumo deadlift high pulls (53#) and 25 back extensions (eurgh). Thought I'd done pretty well at 12.09. Dan did advanced weights in 6.30. Wow!

Running 30:30 intensity: (1:49 @1) + (4:06 @2) + (23:39 @3) + (56 @4) 3.7 mi (8:15 / mi) +40m 7:58 / mi
ahr:161 max:178

Rob drove me to a lit road with a pavement to run on and I ran home. It felt horrible to start with, back was definitely tired, but it eased up and improved by the end. Had to wait ages to cross roads, and sat in a squat at them to stretch out the back.

Note

Eurgh. I don't want to go to work today! Edit...and that was before I saw my inbox :(
10 AM

Cycling 34:06 intensity: (51 @0) + (31:17 @1) + (1:37 @2) + (21 @3)
ahr:124 max:160

Cycling in. Gorgeous morning, shame I was heading for a day of DOOM.

Cycling 25:00 [1]

Cycling home from meeting at Science Hill. Day of Doom was actually worse than expected, got nothing at all done, but at least it ended with a meeting resulting in me being able to teach tutorials next year. Win.
4 PM

Running 30:27 intensity: (6:00 @1) + (9:09 @2) + (15:18 @3) 5.72 km (5:19 / km) +70m 5:01 / km
ahr:152 max:167 shoes: Darth Vader sauconys

Almost bottled, didn't. Yey! Feeling a bit weird and wobbly, think there were a few too many stress hormones floating around today.

Cross Fit 3:51 intensity: (1:53 @1) + (1:06 @2) + (52 @3)
ahr:141 max:160

Not up for Cross Fit, so did their body weight at home workout post run. 50 air squats, 50 sit ups for time. 3.08. Harder than it sounds.

Note

Which of the OROCs should I be getting for Christmas for normal North East style forests? Cristina, I guess you should know this one. I want metal studs for sure.
9 AM

Orienteering 40:34 intensity: (6 @0) + (6:53 @1) + (8:53 @2) + (20:33 @3) + (4:09 @4) 3.8 km (10:41 / km) +119m 9:14 / km
ahr:157 max:182

Put out some streamers for Bill, Charlie and Earl. The first slope was very damaged from Sandy, but the far side of Osbornedale is lovely as ever. I was in a bit of a rush and fudged one - all the chaps were on the ball enough to figure it out before I could go move it. Good work guys! Despite still feeling stiff from the Filthy Fifty, I noticed this interesting thing in my legs today, especially going uphill, called strength. It was pretty cool.

Orienteering 32:42 intensity: (2:29 @0) + (28:45 @1) + (1:28 @2) 1.46 km (22:25 / km) +51m 19:05 / km
ahr:116 max:150

Earl and I did the line course. After a shaky start, Earl improved faster than I have ever seen anyone improve, and was sounding like a planning ahead ninja by the end. Very impressive. I did alright at my bits, but I still lack confidence on the slopey bits at the end.
