Headed to our final stop, a gorgeous Air Bnb just outside Porta Delgada. Started driving towards Sete Cidades, the most spectacular caldeira, but the fog was super thick and we turned round.
Long walk today getting very wet around Lago do Furnas. It was a good walk though, around some fumaroles, and to a Conservation Centre. Then a couple of hours as it got dark in the thermal pool - the best experience of the trip! Great to be sitting in the warm pool as the sun went down and the rain fell!

Went for a a MIC/HIIT combo on arriving at Furnas. Furnas is a town in the bottom of a volcano caldeira, and we treated ourselves to the nice hotel there that had it's own thermal pool. The hotel has a gorgeous botanical garden which was the highlight of the trip.
Was going to just do MIC, but then felt good and did the HIIT too - some super steep sections up the craziest vehicle roads I've ever seen.
Headed off to the north side of the island, planning to stop off at Lago do Fogo caldeira on the way. But the weather was terrible, strong wind, rain on and off, and fog. We caught maybe a 10 second glimpse of the view, but that was all. Went to a small hot spring on the way down, then tried to do a walk but the weather was gross. Drove into a "sheltered" valley with apparent walking trails but there weren't any. Gave up and headed to our new Air Bnb, which was in a gorgeous manicured park. Finally got a walk there. That night the weather was so gross that we lost power for an hour or so on and off.
Flew overnight to the Azores. Managed to get a little rest on the not too busy flight. A nap when I arrived, then coffee, lunch, and an easy day in Porta Delgada.
Still feeling uncomfortable about the state of my lungs, so went for a bike based HIIT rather than running. It was hard! Progressed to 18 mins of 30/30 now, and that is not much recovery! Burning quads, and definitely losing the power in a couple of the steepest sections in the final 8 or so seconds. East Rock is looking gorgeous, the traffic was terrifying!

Made it out just before dark for my MIC - gorgeous day, New Haven starting to turn a lovely colour. HR not insane and not much coughing.

Lower body! This is going to be extremely hard in a couple of weeks time! Need to use the jet lag from next week to get back to gym mornings, it was stupid busy in there today.

Total body day in the gym. Some weird exercises in this set, going to take a little getting used to. Jumped in the sauna afterwards and it loosened stuff in my throat a bit. It was good to do very little this weekend - last week was stressful and I'm sure that didn't help with recovery.

Score event at Paugusset. Everyone knows I don't like scores, but I absolutely love orienteering in the rain. I drew a course and I was on the ball today, navigating well for all but one controls, and again, running strong but not fast. Could have probably managed two more, but they were less fun controls and I wasn't keen an decreasing the fun quotient.

Light lower body session figuring out the new exercises for this block. Somes weird ones including the curtsy lunge, which feels like it throws all the rules for good form out of the window.
Scratchy throat that morning, full blown cold by the afternoon followed by that horrible night of no sleep when you cough every time you lie down. Hopefully this will be a quick one.

Then a bit more running. Throat a bit sore today. George has come to stay from Australia and he's sick, I'm hoping to avoid it but maybe won't manage. Legs are very stiff today, not sure why. Always feel worse at the end of a recovery week!
