Rubbish walking 2:00:00 [0]

Explored Lower Paugusset - what a beautiful piece of woodland! The trail blazing is a little haphazard in places which led to some cross country, but all in all, pretty lovely day out. George, I would love to see the Lidar if you have access to it! Not as technical as Upper Paugusset, but very pleasant.

Recovery 33:00 intensity: (23 @0) + (3:00 @1) + (25:21 @2) + (4:16 @3) 4.61 km (7:09 / km) +26m 6:57 / km
ahr:142 max:153 shoes: Shiny red Sauconys

Maybe turned a corner on this now? Perhaps?

Wednesday Oct 28, 2015 #

Note

Nah, not quite right yet. Didn't sleep last night and tried to sleep in as I have a 6pm meeting tonight, but Rosie decided that was not the plan as soon as Rob left. So will cycle or walk in and leave it at that.
10 AM

Recovery 33:07 intensity: (24 @0) + (2:51 @1) + (26:55 @2) + (2:57 @3) 4.98 km (6:39 / km) +43m 6:22 / km
ahr:141 max:154 shoes: Shiny red Sauconys

Felt pretty bad this morning so just went for a recovery HR run. That felt fine. About an hour later I felt really rubbish and came to work from home. Hurumph.

Tuesday Oct 27, 2015 #

6 PM

Recovery 33:16 intensity: (4:14 @0) + (10:02 @1) + (18:28 @2) + (32 @3) 4.85 km (6:52 / km) +33m 6:38 / km
ahr:133 max:156 shoes: Shiny red Sauconys

Finally made it till the end of the work day without feeling utterly worn out and headachey, so did very slow recovery run and it felt okay. Happy to be back on the up.

Cross Fit 41:19 intensity: (13:24 @0) + (6:31 @1) + (10:41 @2) + (10:43 @3)
ahr:131 max:166

Session 3 for last week's Freeletics. Did the 2x2 version inside as it was dark and that was the wrong decision - the sub version was much harder! Felt better than I expected after the last few days. The truth will be in how I feel tomorrow morning I guess.

Monday Oct 26, 2015 #

Note

Rob and I both got a virus which gave us a banging headache and left us with not much energy. Slept over 10 hours for three nights in a row, still feeling sluggish today.

Note

Felt better until about lunchtime then very tired again. Another 10 hours required tonight I guess!

Friday Oct 23, 2015 #

8 AM

Running 30:01 intensity: (19 @0) + (13 @1) + (3:10 @2) + (25:25 @3) + (54 @4) 4.95 km (6:04 / km) +69m 5:40 / km
ahr:157 max:179 shoes: Shiny red Sauconys

Felt bad most of the week. Tried to run today and it felt pretty bad, tired and stiff. Definitely something going on.

Cross Fit 9:18 intensity: (5 @1) + (2:12 @2) + (7:01 @3) 0.44 km (20:57 / km)
ahr:155 max:171

Skipped to the shorter session 3 for Freeletics. Plenty of rests and short runs, so it wasn't too taxing.

Wednesday Oct 21, 2015 #

Note

When will I learn that running has to happen before work?

Tuesday Oct 20, 2015 #

6 PM

Tennis 1:30:52 intensity: (1:28:02 @0) + (2:46 @1) + (4 @2) 3.28 km (27:41 / km)
ahr:99 max:135 shoes: Shiny red Sauconys

I guess today ended up being my non running day for this week. I actually held Rob to enough points that we played for too long and I was too hungry to run after. Also they didn't finish the track on time, so it was very dark down there.

Monday Oct 19, 2015 #

9 AM

Recovery 33:02 intensity: (18 @0) + (8:33 @1) + (23:39 @2) + (32 @3) 4.75 km (6:58 / km) +62m 6:32 / km
ahr:137 max:151 shoes: Shiny red Sauconys

Shuffle into East Rock Park. Felt surprisingly okay.

Cross Fit 14:41 intensity: (1:36 @0) + (5:12 @1) + (3:53 @2) + (4:00 @3) 0.12 km (2:04:26 / km) +1m 1:59:23 / km
ahr:136 max:159

Freeletics was hard today though.

ahr:146 max:170 shoes: Shiny red Sauconys

"Long run." Felt surprisingly good after a long day of driving around and strolling in Williamsburg.

Cross Fit 30:37 intensity: (15:10 @0) + (7:39 @1) + (7:30 @2) + (18 @3) 0.56 km (54:52 / km) +2m 53:54 / km
ahr:115 max:152 shoes: Shiny red Sauconys

I did Hell Week! It's over! I actually did it!

This next week will be easier, probably with a rest day from running and only three days of Freeletics. Surprised that with stretching most days after workouts I am more flexible at the end of Hell Week than at the start. That stuff does actually work.

Saturday Oct 17, 2015 #

ahr:152 max:167 shoes: Shiny red Sauconys

Hungover neighbourhood shuffle. Felt surprisingly okay!

ahr:151 max:169 shoes: Shiny red Sauconys

Shuffle. Slightly less tired and stiff then I was expecting.

Cross Fit 35:33 intensity: (2:51 @0) + (4:56 @1) + (2:04 @2) + (25:10 @3) + (32 @4) 1.29 km (27:30 / km)
ahr:156 max:176

Extra ow.

Tempo run 30:15 intensity: (1:04 @0) + (44 @1) + (4:28 @2) + (12:37 @3) + (11:22 @4) 5.97 km (5:04 / km)
ahr:161 max:184 shoes: Shiny red Sauconys

The Kumbaya. It was supposed to be a run with friends session. but I don't have those in New Haven. So I got Rivka to pre define my workout. It was quite slow but I was happy to get out.

Cross Fit 38:55 intensity: (10:27 @0) + (8:07 @1) + (6:29 @2) + (13:52 @3) +1m
ahr:135 max:168 shoes: Shiny red Sauconys

Ow.

Wednesday Oct 14, 2015 #

Running 30:01 intensity: (8 @0) + (42 @1) + (11:01 @2) + (18:10 @3) 4.47 km (6:43 / km) +58m 6:18 / km
ahr:149 max:165 shoes: Shiny red Sauconys

Easy run with a couple of hills carrying a huge bag. It is good that running felt much easier carrying a bag roughly equivalent to the extra I weighed last year than it did carrying it on my person.

Cross Fit 28:33 intensity: (12:11 @1) + (7:49 @2) + (8:11 @3) + (22 @4)
ahr:132 max:177

Hell week day 3. This is getting harder. My abs hurt.

Edit: I left my watch running and my track shows the heartbreaking moment that I ran to the shuttle, got to the just closed door, and the driver drove off without me.

Intervals 30:05 intensity: (1:42 @0) + (1:46 @1) + (7:38 @2) + (13:14 @3) + (5:45 @4) 4.28 km (7:02 / km) +22m 6:51 / km
ahr:154 max:189 shoes: Shiny red Sauconys

Crap day rescued by pretty decent intervals session. On a badly lit road the times were decent. Happy with that. The Hamden High track should be finished by next week, and I think it has floodlights. Ooooh!
8 PM

Cross Fit 29:49 intensity: (12:59 @0) + (4:21 @1) + (3:20 @2) + (9:09 @3)
ahr:128 max:174

Day two of hell week. Beat both last week's times despite the intervals. Presumably because of them. Let's see if I can progress to day three tomorrow.

Hill Walking 2:00:00 [1]

Up and down Blue Mountain. Made it before the crowds this time, which made for a much more pleasant experience.
7 AM

Recovery 30:06 intensity: (34 @0) + (10:32 @1) + (17:21 @2) + (1:39 @3) 4.12 km (7:19 / km) +50m 6:53 / km
ahr:136 max:155 shoes: Shiny red Sauconys

Morning shuffle across the Long Lake Bridge. Gorgeous morning and spectacular foliage.

Cross Fit 15:55 intensity: (1:23 @0) + (2:14 @1) + (4:38 @2) + (7:40 @3) 0.33 km (48:14 / km) +7m 43:36 / km
ahr:146 max:167 shoes: Shiny red Sauconys

Dare I try Hell week again?! Last week was such a success :)

Hill Walking 2:30:00 [1]

Hiked Cascade Mountain in the Adirondacks. Cool mountain, bad idea. The whole mountain was teeming with people and we spent most of our time both up and down in a long and frustrating queue of people who were occasionally not very nice. Views were epic, but the whole thing wasn't really worth it. Mini golf after was excellent though, and I held a steady game to go for the win :)

Thursday Oct 8, 2015 #

Cycling 1:10:00 [1]

Managed a cycle commute, not much more.

Wednesday Oct 7, 2015 #

Note

Today I properly failed. Lots of depressing stuff happening around me in lab right now. My actual work is going very well, and things are moving fast, so today I chose to knuckle down and make positive progress towards getting out of here instead of doing my exercise. Nothing is wrong with me at all...just lots of people I care about having a bad time.

Tuesday Oct 6, 2015 #

Note

I failed :)
10 PM

Cross Fit 35:12 intensity: (16:50 @0) + (4:38 @1) + (5:19 @2) + (8:22 @3) + (3 @4)
ahr:123 max:175

No I didn't! Yey!

Monday Oct 5, 2015 #

Note

This is an interesting problem which I have definitely seen myself while teaching:

https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/freedom-learn...

It is amazing how much orienteering can improve so much of this - granting independence, dealing with your own mistakes and planning all from an early age.
7 AM

Running 33:07 intensity: (1:51 @0) + (19:53 @1) + (11:23 @2) 4.85 km (6:50 / km) +60m 6:26 / km
ahr:130 max:143 shoes: Shiny red Sauconys

Recovery shuffle. Full body cover and crappy gloves today! It was amazing.

Cross Fit 22:01 intensity: (14:04 @0) + (2:51 @1) + (3:57 @2) + (1:09 @3) 0.32 km (1:08:35 / km) +2m 1:06:31 / km
ahr:114 max:154 shoes: Shiny red Sauconys

It's hell week on Freeletics, which means there is a workout for every day of the week. It is a pretty good time for me to do that, so I might try. Watch this space for quitting tomorrow after a "long day at work."
6 PM

Cross Fit 39:58 intensity: (39:35 @0) + (23 @1) 1.43 km (27:57 / km) +1m 27:51 / km
ahr:99 max:126 shoes: Shiny red Sauconys

Extra bonus tennis for the day. I got some really good backhands today.

Hill Walking 2:30:00 [1]

And to the Catskills with Rob, where we hiked up to North Ledge and then Stoppel Point. It wasn't quite worth the trip to Stoppel Point, but North Ledge was absolutely wonderful. The leaves are taking a very long time to change this year I think. Good timing for the arrival of Rob's brother next weekend and a trip to the Adirondacks.

Orienteering 1:04:26 [2] 6.05 km (10:39 / km) +157m 9:26 / km
shoes: Integrators 5000

I did not enjoy the map, the forest, or the course today.

But then I went to Mass MoCA with Rob, which I very much enjoyed. And then a lovely meal with cool people. So glad I went. No plans to orienteer on Sunday though.

Friday Oct 2, 2015 #

7 AM

Running 28:48 intensity: (24 @0) + (11 @1) + (10:33 @2) + (17:40 @3) 4.88 km (5:54 / km) +72m 5:30 / km
ahr:150 max:164 shoes: Shiny red Sauconys

Towards the lab, feeling tired.

Recovery 15:09 intensity: (4 @0) + (12:41 @2) + (2:24 @3) 2.35 km (6:27 / km) +9m 6:20 / km
ahr:144 max:154 shoes: Shiny red Sauconys

Slowed to a recovery stroll for the rest of the way in. I ran three times this week, but missed both quality sessions, which was a bit of a fail.
