Note

No run today but two short walks up the Sol Duc road part of Olympic. Then back to SeaTac for a red eye.

Running 12:25 intensity: (1:30 @0) + (3:03 @1) + (4:53 @2) + (2:59 @3) 1.84 km (6:45 / km)
ahr:146 max:161 shoes: 2014 Saucony cohesions

After a short morning walk with the wedding party to Marymere Falls I took my jog around the Moments in Time Trail on the edge of Lake Crescent. Spectacular forest and beautiful lake views. Wish I could do the mile here every day!

Friday Aug 29, 2014 #

Note

No jog today but did a 3.5 mile walk up on Hurricane Ridge and that felt like enough. The mists mostly cleared just as we got up there, and we saw some fantastic views and also some cheeky Olympic Marnots. Luckily no dangerously habituated mountain goats!

Rob picked up something nasty en route (probably a burger at Ruby Tuesdays in Newark airport, given we ate all the same stuff otherwise) and so our first day in Seattle was a bust. I jogged out to Elliot Bay Bookstore in the afternoon while he was back in bed. It was hot for Seattle!

Was just waiting for my watch to wake up when Jesse and Katy ran past, so I joined them for my mile. Mike needs to text them about Delaneys :s

rhr:49 slept:7.0

A bit headachey this morning but not tired - it's been warm the last few nights so I'm going to put it down to dehydration. Got everything done at work that I had to and generally feeling pleased with myself, even though my experiment totally failed.
10 PM

Running 10:44 intensity: (1:09 @0) + (3:21 @1) + (2:48 @2) + (3:26 @3) 1.61 km (6:40 / km) +7m 6:31 / km

Today was mega busy and I had to walk to the shuttle from home, so I ended up doing an Ian, except I got it the wrong way round and ate the burritto (bowl) before running. I weighed heavy on my stomach the whole way round. The insects make so much noise in our neighbourhood.

Cross Fit 2:04 [0]

Box jumps and hand release press ups.

slept:7.0 weight:65.8kg

Slept well once I got to sleep (87%), which took a little while. Plenty of energy at work today to focus on writing stuff. Then went to stamford mall to buy a dress for this weeks wedding and that was depressing. I am not a fan of my shape right now.
6 PM

Running 9:23 intensity: (44 @0) + (1:26 @1) + (2:30 @2) + (4:43 @3) 1.61 km (5:50 / km) +1m 5:49 / km

Some thrusters, lunges and squats.

Almost back to sleeping properly. Small lie in in the morning, no foggy feeling. Then spent all day at work and enjoyed it after last week's frustrations.

ahr:112 max:137 shoes: 2014 Saucony cohesions

It turns out yesterday was probably beginners luck, because I am still really bad at tennis. Tired after a day at work though so not ideal timing.

Running 9:02 intensity: (38 @0) + (11 @1) + (2:53 @2) + (5:20 @3) 1.61 km (5:36 / km) +12m 5:24 / km

Today was the second day that I woke up naturally before 9 and felt okay. Not amazing, but okay. We had two lovely nights with combinations of Rob's friends from home, and yesterday I had an excellent day talking about big questions with my boss and watching the Masters student I supervised do a really great presentation. Resting HR and weight taken mid afternoon, so perhaps not super accurate.
1 PM

Tennis 32:38 intensity: (19:07 @0) + (9:18 @1) + (3:11 @2) + (1:02 @3) 1.47 km (22:12 / km)
ahr:131 max:165 shoes: 2014 Saucony cohesions

I've read a lot about chronic fatigue this week. Most of it is pretty depressing, but one Australian guy had a few common sense things to say. The first was that you need to let go of what you think you should be able to do and focus on where you are. So I will not be running the trail marathon. No point dragging myself round and then feeling like I did this week for weeks after. Start back at the beginning, and record carefully how you feel on waking and throughout the day. Yesterday Rob played tennis with his friend Frances who was visiting, and today when I asked him to join me for a mile jog he suggested we play tennis instead. We knocked the ball around for half an hour and it was really fun. I won an awesome rally halfway through but when we got serious and played for points Rob destroyed me. It was really good fun. Despite having not played since we first moved here, I appear to be better - I guess I should thank the extra shoulder stability from Cross Fit probably.

I hope we can do this more regularly.

Running 10:30 intensity: (39 @0) + (13 @1) + (5:36 @2) + (4:02 @3) 1.61 km (6:31 / km) +7m 6:23 / km
ahr:151 max:160 shoes: 2014 Saucony cohesions

I jogged home after tennis. This felt quite stiff and awkward.

Cross Fit 1:50 intensity: (31 @0) + (1:02 @1) + (17 @2)
ahr:138 max:154 shoes: 2014 Saucony cohesions

Some light "kettlebell swings" and some pull ups to end today.

Note

Something out there is trying to tell me to give up. Today I woke up in quite bad gastric distress, which has almost abated by the end of the day. Always a pleasure!

Note

I am sorry for all these posts about things that most of you probably don't want to hear, but I think there's enough of us girls out there that struggle with this stuff that we should talk about it more. So avert your eyes if you don't want more adventures in IUD land...

So this weekend I thought my period had started, but it didn't hurt and they'd told me it would, so I wasn't sure. But today I am definitely sure because there is a lot of blood and I am totally wiped out. I barely slept, and when I did I had insane dreams. The best one was about teaching Clem a trick one day, and then next day she was replaced by a different cat who said the Cat Union had sent another cat in Clem's place because I'd broken her terms of service.

So I failed to train today, but I'm feeling a bit more with it this evening. There is still a gross amount of blood though. Should tail off over the next few days.

I've also been planning the trip to Alaska...I think we will do an awesome boat cruise if we get a good day of weather. If...

Cycling 2:15:00 [1]

Emma texted yesterday and asked if I fancied meeting her for a cycle on the Air Line State Park. Despite the fact I still have traumatic flashbacks to the last time that was attempted, I said yes, and we had a lovely time. This was not quite easy gossip pace but definitely not hard core cycling either - somewhere in between.

It's not been a great week for health - I've worked 12 hours 4 days this week (very productive, so fine), but I've also been plagued with abdomen issues which made running and definitely cross fit a very unattractive prospect. Friday though was spent at Neuroday (a "retreat" to West Campus), and a day sitting down seemed to sort me out a bit. So I tried my next long run. I completed the Regicides Trail and then did a bit of the Quinnipiac. The Regicides is completely relentless - never stops rock hopping and feels uphill the whole way. I decided not to carry water, thinking this would be the last run I could do without it, but that was a silly decision - should have had water and food because I was out for AAAAGGGEEESSS. Still, I am happy to have completed the toughest run I've done in at least a couple of years, and will pick an easier route next week! The Quinnipiac seems a little more runnable, so may try exploring some more of that. Next week's aim - to do an extra couple of miles in significant less time than this run!

I had big plans for today, but my stomach still felt weird - no pain but a bit heavy and strange. So just did the Monday recovery run to meet Rob after work. Bit stuffy!

(rest day)

Had an IUD fitted on Friday. Not the most pleasant twenty minutes I've ever spent with a nurse but not as bad as I was anticipating either. No rigorous activity for three days - got some exciting cramps running down a bank at Mohawk mountain yesterday but nothing today despite many gardening. Hopefully it's going to take okay! Went out on a Saturday night in downtown New Haven for the first time ever last night, and despite ending up in the weirdest karaoke bar ever had a lot of fun. The great and also sad nature of academia is that once you get close to someone it's usually not that long until they leave. Ashley is only going to NYC though, so hopefully this won't be the last time. I'm not being that clear, the great thing is meeting do many great people, the sad thing is when they leave.

I think i might be sick...not sure.

Note

Definitely sick. Got some excellent career news today - not so excellent for my wishes to move back home. So very happy in my head, but body still feels rubbish! Getting my IUD fitted tomorrow which will no doubt improve matters :s

Little jaunt to wake me up in the morning, as Rob had to be at work way too early again. Another excellent day at work - nothing to report, just productive, but then whacked by the evening. Stomach has been upset for a few days which is leaving me a bit lacking in energy after a whole day.

Forced myself to get up at a decent time and ran into East Rock when Rob drove in to his early meeting. Felt rubbish for the warm up mile, then gradually better, which probably proves that it's mostly in my head. Hot today!

Rob rescued me from a slumpy day by coming out to start a run with me at West Rock. We did our usual loops, then I looped off back up to the Ridge, then ran home. Normal trainers are not the best for the blue trail, especially when it's damp, but nonetheless the whole thing was very fun, although it's a shame it's all road running back home. Very cool out. Can't quite believe this is August weather. It's great :)
