70% Max slog. It was hot! I was not. Felt better when I ran faster to bail out and jump on the blue shuttle at the end.

Saw a new bird today! Smaller than an American Robin, bright yellow orange chest and black and white flashes on wings. Really pretty!

Cross Fit 1:10:31 intensity: (26:19 @0) + (38:42 @1) + (2:47 @2) + (2:43 @3) 0.4 km (2:56:17 / km) +9m 2:38:28 / km

After a slow start post mega day yesterday, training had to wait till the evening. (Mega yesterday worked btw, but didn't really show a clear path forward. Mumble grumble). Cross Fit was some squats which I kept light, DB rows, weighted walking lunges and ring rows. Thought it would be really hard as still had DOMS from Monday, but it's amazing how they go away when you try t generate force with the same muscles. Really fun crew, and plenty of silly dancing to JT.

Running 1:06:10 intensity: (38 @1) + (1:49 @2) + (40:48 @3) + (22:55 @4) 12.27 km (5:23 / km) +177m 5:02 / km

Slightly overplanned an extra loop on the run home. Took me through the lovely Quinnipiac Campus (definitely sprintable people), up the back way onto Ridge Road, and through Mansion Ville. There was a moment half an hour in where I was worried I had gone mega wrong, because things weren't getting more suburby, but a mailbox said Ridge Road just as I was trying to remember how to get the map screen up on the Garmin. Very hilly up that top end. Fantastic evening, but will probably regret the length tomorrow.

Note

Not as many DOMS as I expected today, but a rest day nonetheless. I have set up 4 different timecourses in my neurons, and now have to blot them all. I'm using all the cassettes and power packs in the lab, but I'm still going to be going till past 9! Yippee!! Ahem. If these all work (which they should), it will be a day of mega productivity, so it's not like a month ago when I was doing the same but banging my head against a brick wall.

Note

Went into work, treated my cells, and they all died! Bummer, but now I can enjoy some of the Memorial Day sunshine.

Note

JanetT, Charlie anyone else? Someone posted a photo on CT A to Z asking what this flower may be. They've posted a photo in the comments at the bottom. Any ideas?

Running 45:08 intensity: (1:01 @1) + (3:43 @2) + (34:56 @3) + (5:28 @4) 8.13 km (5:33 / km) +88m 5:16 / km

Morning run to Cross Fit. Legs tired after yesterday, but not too shabby.

Cross Fit 1:06:00 intensity: (16:39 @1) + (3:05 @2) + (28:23 @3) + (17:53 @4) 2.12 mi (31:08 / mi) +20m 30:15 / mi
ahr:157 max:189 shoes: Pink cohesions

Probably not the most sensible way to get back into Cross Fit. Memorial Day Murph! 1 mile run, 100 pull ups (I did ring rows), 200 press ups and 300 squats. Most people did 20 sets of 5, 10, 15 and this worked well. The boys started fast on the run and it felt quite good (Not running fast, but fast for what was about to come). The second mile felt like the end of a marathon, legs all weirdly wobbly. The second half passed more quickly as I passed lots of the others on the way out, and there was a copious amount of high fiving.

Probably shouldn't have done that after such a long break, but meh... Oh, my time! 43.05.

Fun morning out at Sessions Woods. No major errors, but a couple of sub optimal route choices. Flow also seems to be a thing of the past.

ahr:167 max:183 shoes: Pink cohesions

Played computer games all day feeling rubbish and tired after a week of very little sleep (we had guests with very strange walking round the house all night switching lights on habits). Then we forced ourselves out into the rain to walk to Home Depot, an after that I figured I should man up and go for a run, so I did. It was good. I turned my ankle in East Rock, but it was a case of swear for thirty seconds then carry on. It was cold - full leg and arm cover and two layers on the top half. Surely it's not actually June next week? It looks like we donated our weather to the UK for today, and got theirs in return :)

Had to do a 70%er today or wouldn't have made it out of the door. It felt okay, but I didn't feel energised by it like I usually do at the end. Pah. Humidity has arrived and it's killing me already.

The leaf miners are into my beets now. I sacrificed the spinach, as even the unaffected leaves were so covered in eggs that wiping them off was not a feasible option. The beets are less bad, not much sign of eggs, so I've just removed the affected leaves. Lost some plants completely though. Any hints?

Note

First garden problem - leaf miners in the spinach! Any organic ideas other than wiping off the eggs? The internet seems to think my spinach is finished...

Ran into the dentist with heavyish bag. Felt tired.

ahr:176 max:188 shoes: Integrators 5000

First time orienteering this year without carrying bags of control kites! Whoo! It was really fun, and I didn't feel mega unfit either. A few wobbles but tried to actually concentrate and it worked out okay.
1 PM

Orienteering 26:20 intensity: (1 @0) + (8:18 @1) + (4:07 @2) + (13:54 @3) 2.67 km (9:51 / km) +71m 8:42 / km
ahr:150 max:172 shoes: Integrators 5000

And just in case I missed it, grabbed a bag and collected in some of the further controls. Nothing in Stratton Brook is really very far, so it didn't take too long.

In the meantime Janet showed me some Ladyslipper flowers which were lovely.

"Easy" 6 miles. Not hard, but I don't think I'd quite go for easy either! Lovely morning, but you can tell the humidity is on the way. Saw a cardinal and a blue jay, and the onset of the topless running man.

Ran in. Felt a bit better than yesterday. Then wasted a few hours standing in queues to get errands done.

ahr:173 max:195 shoes: Pink cohesions

Tried to do 4 x 400 in 90 secs, on a slight downhill with no major bends. It felt awful and I failed magnificently. How depressing. Had an altercation with a silly dog in number two and generally felt like I would explode by 80 seconds. Being unfit is no fun. Another amazing morning for running, a bit chilly for hanging around though.

Note

Can someone tell me where to send the checks from the Junior Training weekend, and also remind me a few times a day to actually do it? This is getting beyond ridiculous now. Also, cmorse, I still have your money and some extra crockery.
9 AM

Running 1:00:02 intensity: (19:24 @1) + (39:43 @2) + (55 @3) 8.33 km (7:13 / km) +161m 6:34 / km
ahr:145 max:157 shoes: Pink cohesions

Couldn't manage much more than a 70% HR this morning. It was a lovely, lovely morning. Wish I could say the same about my legs/lungs/everything!

Ran into work. It didn't feel awful, but it didn't feel too good either. Very humid.

The garden didn't die while we were away! I had the makings of a tasty starter...

Note

Acadia is amazing, I'm not really sure how the rest of Jen and Pete's holiday is going to measure up now. Today we climbed ladders up Beehive Mountain, paddled on Sand Beach, marvelled at the Thunder Hole, strolled across the Bar Harbor sand bar, ate two great meals and played mini golf. Whew! Long journey home tomorrow.

Having a lot of fun in Acadia but I have no get up and go at all. Hmm.

This was yesterday. A bit of fog this morning, but it looks like it will burn off okay.

Friday May 3, 2013 #

Note

Finally feeling a bit better today, though woke up drenched in sweat at about 4am. Ear is almost pain free. Who'd have thought sticking alcohol down it would actually work?

Thursday May 2, 2013 #

Note

Bubbly ear mildly sore today, but better than the pain of yesterday by a long way. Not feeling up to much, but have been cycling for the commute, so not a total disaster.

Also, an animal broke through the (admittedly pretty ramshackle) garden box defences last night. Damage is minimal, but I am going to have to work on the frame.

Wednesday May 1, 2013 #

Note

Ouch bubbly ear. You're not funny anymore.
