This week has a lot of deadlines and just can't get it all done. Plenty of walking during the commute but one of those weeks where I just have to give myself a break.

Went out control picking with Rob, who continues to be really good at orienteering, and also much better at running fast up hills than I am. Really lovely weekend.

Loved being out on Pond Mountain today. Great course, wonderful woods, ran better than I expected and orienteering pretty well. Enjoyed racing Stefan, especially on the longer legs. Fantastic.

This felt exactly like 1.1 miles of tempo should feel when you've not really eaten anything for ~36 hours. It was just good to move this morning, even if it was not very fast.

Easy session again. These exercises have been fun, looking forward to the next block.

6 x 90(30). Legs were stiff today and lungs felt a bit tight. I don't think the inov8 running vest is good for full chest expansion. Might have to look into buying a different one.

Very start stop "long" run today. The traffic was so heavy that I couldn't sneak across a single road - had to stop and cross at walks signs the whole way. Got gesticulated at 3-4 times on this run for the hideous crime of trying to cross the road when the walk sign was on. At least two of the gesticulators were on their phones at the time.
I have never lived in a place where the disregard for the safety of others that share a city is so high. You really don't notice it until you start walking and biking around. It's appalling and really upsets me.

Another tough day in the gym - light week next week - phew!
Listened to part two of The Daily and pretty much bawled my eyes out in the gym. I don't even want to think about how many times these kind of stories have played out in the hurricanes over the last few years.
Then picked up cakes for Bianca's birthday and dealt with traffic part two. I don't know what was going on downtown today, but the traffic was hideous. Crossing the road at the Science Museum the walk sign went on and the cars just kept on going. After ten seconds of waiting and the cars still coming, I gesticulated wildly at the walk sign till one guy stopped. As I crossed, he wound down his window and shouted "F**k you" at me.
I really love my job but I really, really dislike Boston. I can't see myself taking an enormous amount more of this. Couple this with the fact that my cousin's town pretty much exploded yesterday and I am pretty much ready to go, now matter how genuinely fantastic this job is.

Too wiped this morning but did 5 x 90 (30s) on the way home. Glad to get them out, but was happy to turn around and see the best bus when I hit Broadway halfway through the cool down.

Today I found some flow after really not having some flow on the previous control. Fluffed the control over the hill, just had no idea where I was at all until I hit my attack point after two rounds of checking out ponds that might have been it before hand. When I actually got there it was very obvious. The next leg was a tricky slope crosser though and I nailed it - not super smooth, but something was there.
Rob did his first TD5 course today and beat many of the experts despite rescuing a lady and checking out three parallel marshes for a bit. He has a really impressive feel for the map!

The heat went down and Rob joined me for a weekend in Pawtuckaway. It was wonderful to be in the woods, and fun to realise just how much orienteering I need to relearn the bits that make orienteering a sport of flow and fun. No major errors but a lot of start stopping, and found the running tough in places. But again, just so good to be out and about. We think Rob won the yellow and thus he promoted himself for Sunday.
Afterwards we visited Portsmouth which is like a mini Portland, before having dinner with Rachael and Alex and the boys. A lovely day, only marred by a few too many mosquito bites!
The heatwave this week ha been utterly draining. I've tried all manners of ways to get to work and not arrive a sweaty, exhausted mess, but none of them worked - surprise buses without AC and red line cars without any air.
The heat has broken now but today I am utterly dead.
