Ran home at a pace that felt easy. I don't think my HR actually hit 182 - I'm still using just the wrist unit so it may be a bit inaccurate. I enjoyed this too, even though I was hungry. The run one way commute is more fun than cycling both ways.

Run into work with 5 x (90 x 30) on the way. These were hard, I haven't tried to run fast for quite a long time. I actually enjoyed these too though.

We actually walked for much longer than this today. Our legs were surprisingly sore and we ended up getting some stuff done in town before have a tasty meal with Rach and Alex and family, which was lovely.

Hill Walking 2:00:00 [2]

We went up Mount Monadnock! It's been many years since I first did that, and it was a lovely day despite the wind up top. It's a really good hill for view quality versus effort :) Knee a little unhappy by the end of the descent but generally better than I expected.

Jogged to the Body Shop to make my only concession to Black Friday. It was wet but I got $60 of stuff I actually use for $4.99, so I guess that was worth it! I felt stiff.

Hubwayed into town and home to pick up my new Garmin! The old one finally gave up the ghost completely, with a broken LCD screen and a dead battery. It's a long way from work to REI and home, and I may have cycled too much on the knee. It's not the worst it has been, but felt it a couple of times on the final section.

Oh my word it takes sooooo long to get across Sullivan Square by foot. They need an overpass!

Ran to Whole Foods to buy lab breakfast. Getting up the first hill is quite long and tough off no breakfast, but after that it was fine. Nice light, much warmer than last night. No knee niggles.

Ran back from work to Kendall. Running felt easier than I expected and I enjoyed it feeling like real winter. In the morning walked to the T, then hubwayed from Kendall. Tried a lower seat on the hubway and knee was good the whole way. Just two more days of having to do stuff, yey three day work week!

Helped out a bit at the Youth League event, including a couple of forays into the woods to move controls. Then Rob came back from Ikea and we "jogged" round the orange. Except it was more like we stood still for a bit then legged it up a hill. His legs are much longer than mine :) It was really fun - my knee is fine running - maybe I should do a run/hubway/T based commute until it improves?

Pretty sure it's coming from my hips/low back being tighter than they should be and having knock on effects lower down - am yogaing, stretching and rolling to try to sort it out.

Note

Wowzer, SfN was quite a week! I took running gear but it never made it out of my case. I was staying up on Mount Pleasant, and so every day I at least walked to the Convention Centre, and most days back too. Add to that the hugeness of the place and most days I walked over ten miles in extremely inappropriate shoes. It was a great week, lots of good science and even better people. Very glad I finally got to go, but totally exhausted. Then spent all Friday testing out a new instrument at Quanterix. A busy but satisfying week. All that standing did not help my knee though.

Cycling 3:45:00 [1]

I've cycled into work and back every day this week. My knee is getting worse so I should probably stop. Luckily I'm at SFN for most of next week so I get a few days off.

On my way home today a van driver decided, I'm hoping by accident, to wash their windscreen at exactly the moment they overtook me. I got a face full of washer fluid and it really hurt my eyes. I've already been not impressed with Boston this week after trying to figure out how I'd get to work in under 75 minutes if my knee hurts too much to cycle, and there really isn't a way, and now I'm just fed up. This place feels so unlivable to me. There are too many cars, not enough transit, and it's just rubbish.

Almost six months in Boston now and I'm still not really feeling it. I do like being able to orienteer more and my job is less stressful. So that's good.

Jogged to get the veg box. It's not as far on foot as it seems in the car! Knee not really a problem when running - couple of twinges when I hit uneven pavement without realising.

Tried to do the scrambler workout but it had a lot of bends and it turns out my left knee hurts at 90 degrees - it's fine on the bike. So did a cobbled together upper body set and then had some rolly time on the ITB.

Slept for a long time but still didn't feel refreshed in the morning. So I went orienteering, but did the brown and set the watch to beep over 160 bpm. There was quite a bit of uphill so I walked a lot of the course. There was a high school marching band practising for most of it, and I felt like a super hero running down hills with the band playing in the distance :)

Made a really stupid mistake running way past number 4 despite the fact you could see it from the track when I came back, and did badly on the short leg to 6. But otherwise not too bad. Definitely the right choice not to do more. Enjoyed it out there!

Set the watch for 150 and did DD very slowly and carefully. Pace workout, 20# KB for the goblet squat and 15# DB for the rest. Muscles have got that weird scrunchy feeling you get when you're ill sometimes. Maybe just a bit ill.

Easy day doing not much. Went to Seaport to hangout with friends for a bit, walked and hubwayed a bit. Got more amazing ice cream from Honeycomb creamery. Hopefully in for a good night's sleep tonight!
