Note

I did run one day this week.

Next week I have to go back to the UK, then get two days in Italy. Back home for a day then fly to Phoenix for a day.

Not looking forward to fitting TTs in around all that.

I don't remember what this was but I guess I did it.

Note

I don't think I will ever forget this evening. We made it to the Sanders rally, and queued for an hour or so to get in. Bernie did a sweep along the whole length of the queue, and people were acting like he was a member of One Direction. He makes people very happy, and seemed genuinely happy to be out there.

Then we were sitting down on the green, waiting a long time for the rally to start, when a lady came over to over us four magical green wristbands - would be like to get on the stage behind Bernie? Well yes. After watching this terrible campaign unfold, and being unable to vote or even donate to the candidate of our choice (despite being a federal tax payer for six years now), here was something we could do - stand behind a candidate we truly believed in, and yell our hearts out. And so that's what we did.

I know he's probably (well, almost definitely) not going to win the nomination. But to be behind such integrity, such goodwill, and such belief in the power of humanity for good, was a real privilege.

In short, I guess I'm feeling the Bern tonight.

Edit: watching yourself on TV is kind of weird!

More wonderful Pond Mountain time. I was running much better this time, and it was a lot of fun. Think that mild illness last week was a bit worse than I thought it was.

Strength 2:00:00 [1]

Spent the whole afternoon helping our next door neighbor cover her entire garden in mulch to prevent her over excitable Labrador from destroying it entirely. Lots of digging, wheel barrowing and raking.

Tomorrow I have to get up super early to go to Pond Mountain and get back to New Haven earlier than planned - it's time to feel the Bern!

Note

Way to start the day well - wake up to your Air BnB host for your conference in Copenhagen telling you he's cancelled your reservation because his housing area have clamped down on Air BnBs. Had to spend a good hour or so trying to find a replacement place, as Jen and Pete are already booked to come visit me there. I think I have managed, hope so.

Hi 4.58 am! Why?!
6 AM

Running 50:10 intensity: (11 @0) + (1:11 @1) + (6:43 @2) + (40:55 @3) + (1:10 @4) 8.2 km (6:07 / km) +131m 5:40 / km
ahr:159 max:176 shoes: Neon sauconys

After waking up at silly o' clock I had no excuse not to run in. Felt fine.
7 AM

Freeletics 13:26 intensity: (2 @0) + (24 @1) + (1:34 @2) + (5:37 @3) + (5:49 @4) 0.06 km (3:51:37 / km)
ahr:168 max:181 shoes: Neon sauconys

Too many split squats. Fine at the time, not fine the next day.

Cycling 1:10:00 [1]

Totally whacked today so settled for cycling the commute. The lab made it to 31 degrees today. I effectively am now on strike. I would prefer to be working.

11 AM

Orienteering 1:25:01 intensity: (4:36 @0) + (14:33 @1) + (28:26 @2) + (37:26 @3) 7.0 km (12:09 / km) +235m 10:24 / km
ahr:145 max:170 shoes: Integrators 5000

No bag today, and running felt okay till about an hour, then legs just stopped again. I think lack of training in general, mega session on Tuesday plus feeling a bit ill has depleted my glycogen stores.

Today I saw a HUGE owl.

My feet are wrecked.

Ice cream milkshakes from Arethusa Farms are the best.

Orienteering 2:16:40 intensity: (2:58 @0) + (17:12 @1) + (38:04 @2) + (1:18:26 @3) 13.0 km (10:31 / km)
ahr:149 max:172 shoes: Integrators 5000

Pond Mountain Pootle carrying a bag and lots of water. It is gorgeous out there! I saw lots of woodpeckers. At about 2 hours my legs just stopped moving, so I tootled a bit more.

Friday Apr 15, 2016 #

Note

And then today I woke up with a burning throat in the middle of the night and a massively elevated HR. So now I'm going to bed, before spending a hopefully productive weekend up at Pond Mountain.

Thursday Apr 14, 2016 #

Note

Accidentally slept through my alarm and then had to work frantically to get everything done before Happy Hour, as Happy Hour was my idea and thus I couldn't turn up hours late. And it was excellent, but I did not run.

Wednesday Apr 13, 2016 #

Note

Went to get my implant fitted after the great IUD disaster of 2016. I was planning on freeletics today, but am not allowed to lift anything above 35lb for a week. So I didn't. Got to wear an impressive looking bandage all day.

Tuesday Apr 12, 2016 #

6 PM

Running 1:18:33 intensity: (1 @0) + (2:54 @1) + (23:35 @2) + (34:17 @3) + (17:46 @4) 12.48 km (6:18 / km) +182m 5:52 / km
ahr:158 max:185 shoes: Neon sauconys

Today's workout was terrifying. 15 x 400m with two mins rest between "as fast as possible." Of course I wasn't going to do that like a reps session, but figured it would be a pretty decent almost Foxdal style session if done on the trails. And it was! Fun! But tough! But things have to hurt to get better, right?

I really enjoyed this.

5 PM

Running 46:40 intensity: (31 @0) + (9 @1) + (5:21 @2) + (39:08 @3) + (1:31 @4) 8.07 km (5:47 / km) +63m 5:34 / km
ahr:157 max:179 shoes: Neon sauconys

8 km comfortable pace. Nice to get out in the light. Had a sore throat all day but hopefully it's just allergy time.
9 PM

Freeletics 21:46 intensity: (13:33 @0) + (4:12 @1) + (4:01 @2) +5m
ahr:112 max:147

3/4 Venus Endurance. Totally smashed it, so of course the app crashed and now I have no ghost to aim for next time. I constantly feel like I'm making no progress with anything, so it's nice to do this a year after the last time in almost half the time.

Friday Apr 8, 2016 #

Note

I don't have any enthusiasm for any of this. Especially not talking to my fourth university campus about team trials sprints. I have the least enthusiasm for that.

Recovery 35:18 intensity: (14 @0) + (10:51 @1) + (23:56 @2) + (17 @3) 4.64 km (7:36 / km) +53m 7:12 / km
ahr:136 max:149 shoes: Neon sauconys

Recovery into work as the weather rapidly deteriorated.

Freeletics 12:42 intensity: (32 @0) + (3:37 @1) + (3:52 @2) + (4:41 @3) 0.0 km (42:20:00 / km)
ahr:140 max:161

Nemesis in the snow/ice. Lots of faff getting stuff out to put on the ground etc. Climbers much harder with shoes on.

Recovery 23:04 intensity: (19 @0) + (1:31 @1) + (19:28 @2) + (1:46 @3) 3.61 km (6:24 / km) +2m 6:23 / km
ahr:143 max:152 shoes: Neon sauconys

The rest of the way in. Feeling quite good by the end, though the weather was quite bad.

ahr:145 max:161 shoes: Neon sauconys

Couldn't face the drive and weather at Bethel Schools today - this was a late afternoon run after having cleaned the whole upstairs of the house.

Saturday Apr 2, 2016 #

3 PM

Running 1:01:30 intensity: (30 @0) + (2:40 @1) + (4:23 @2) + (42:28 @3) + (11:29 @4) 10.13 km (6:04 / km) +201m 5:32 / km
ahr:164 max:180 shoes: Neon sauconys

Left some bread to rise, then ran up to West Rock once the rain had finished. Saw two turkey vultures really close up, that was cool. Saw an angry dog closer than I would have liked. It's owners kept hitting it after it went for me, and I felt sorry for it. Then met up with Rob and had a bit of a walk. Very pleasant relaxing afternoon.
6 PM

Freeletics 23:14 intensity: (10:51 @0) + (2:18 @1) + (6:25 @2) + (3:40 @3)
ahr:124 max:164

Final Freeletics of the week. Prometheus plus stretching. I was stiff and a bit tired for this.

Note

Temperature in the lab hit 30 degrees sensible today, and we have gone on a work strike. You can't do molecular biology at that temperature, simple as.
