Yoga 10:00 [0]

Took a rest day today as I had low level nausea all day, which was aggravated by the run on Sunday. Just some pre bedtime yoga.

Sunday Nov 29, 2015 #

Note

A good week's training, and a State Park Visit!

2 PM

Running 41:47 intensity: (25 @0) + (34 @1) + (11:53 @2) + (28:55 @3) 4.95 km (8:26 / km) +133m 7:26 / km
ahr:152 max:171 shoes: X Talon 212s

Much nicer day today so it was worth the drive to West Rock. The Blue trail was as devious as ever, and I was thwarted again by people who can't control their dogs. I will be glad when Thanksgiving is done and they are all back inside again! Feeling muscle tired but not bad tired. Lovely run. Saw a funny turkey afterwards who couldn't make up it's mind about whether it wanted to cross the road or not.
3 PM

Yoga 18:20 intensity: (17:45 @0) + (15 @1) + (20 @2)
ahr:86 max:148

Some more climbers followed by some yoga time. Tight hamstrings!

Saturday Nov 28, 2015 #

3 PM

Running 36:19 intensity: (6:20 @1) + (13:44 @2) + (16:15 @3) 6.11 km (5:56 / km) +101m 5:29 / km
ahr:140 max:165 shoes: Shiny red Sauconys

Uninspiring day and tired legs fancied a run on soft stuff, but didn't fancy driving anywhere. So I looped around all the soft places close to the house. It was surprisingly okay, and I surprised a herd of deer by the baseball field again.

Yoga 14:26 intensity: (14:09 @0) + (17 @1) +1m
ahr:93 max:126

Some much better climbers, and then some yoga stretchy time. New mattress is helping my lower back and hamstring flexibility a lot, as is actually doing some stretches. Another benefit of Freeletics.

Rubbish walking 1:30:00 [0]

This walk was not rubbish. We stopped off at Penwood, the next State Park on the way home. The woods were gloriously, it was insanely warm, and we just had time before dark to visit George and Lyn's favourite viewpoint. Great to get home and still have the entire weekend remaining!

Note

Black Friday done! New running trainers to replace my current holey sauconys, new walking boots for Rob, both at 30% off. Then a compact down vest from Uniqlo, twenty bucks off, free shipping. All finished, and never had to step out of the kitchen. That's the way to do it!
10 AM

Running 36:24 intensity: (31 @0) + (13 @1) + (10:18 @2) + (24:35 @3) + (47 @4) 5.09 km (7:09 / km) +97m 6:32 / km
ahr:154 max:177 shoes: X Talon 212s

Should probably have rested this morning, but Anne and Rog live right on the edge of a lovely State Park and I couldn't resist. I was tired but still moving okay, and I just wish that people took some notice of the signs to keep their dogs on leads. It was a lovely morning, stupidly warm for the end of November - about 17 degrees sensible. I was way too hot.

Cross Fit 27:17 intensity: (12:25 @0) + (4:23 @1) + (8:36 @2) + (1:53 @3)
ahr:121 max:153

2 x Athena the endurance version. Got a better hang of crunches today, the basic coaching advice of "keep your core tight" worked remarkably well. Then some stretchy time in the living room, before heading home.

Tempo run 36:24 intensity: (24 @0) + (25 @1) + (5:13 @2) + (24:34 @3) + (5:48 @4) 6.49 km (5:36 / km) +67m 5:20 / km
ahr:160 max:183 shoes: Shiny red Sauconys

Thursday morning Lauren Fleshman. This was another friend workout, but I don't have friends (for running with), so I had to use cars instead. 8 x 1 minute with random starts, at least 2 mins rest between sets. I just set off whenever a car drove past. This was hard, I was tired.

Cross Fit 8:32 intensity: (7:45 @0) + (41 @1) + (6 @2) 0.0 km
ahr:108 max:134

Some climbers and some stretchy time.

Running 36:27 intensity: (18 @0) + (7 @1) + (2:29 @2) + (31:47 @3) + (1:46 @4) 5.89 km (6:11 / km) +105m 5:41 / km
ahr:162 max:180 shoes: Shiny red Sauconys

Into work - legs feeling tired ish so ran the nice way through the woods int he sunshine, and enjoyed it. Heavy-ish bag.

Cross Fit 20:00 intensity: (5 @0) + (1 @1) + (7 @2) + (10:04 @3) + (9:43 @4) 2.09 km (9:33 / km)
ahr:175 max:188 shoes: Shiny red Sauconys

Ugh, Iris! Luckily my coach gave me the endurance version, so I got to do mountain climbers instead of climbers. I can't do that many climbers. This was okay, a bit boring. The kilometer runs were slow - partly due to bag and partly due to tired legs.

6 PM

Intervals 36:22 intensity: (1:02 @0) + (44 @1) + (10:13 @2) + (19:07 @3) + (5:16 @4) 6.55 km (5:33 / km) +32m 5:25 / km
ahr:157 max:180 shoes: Shiny red Sauconys

15 x 15s. Still felt normal by the end of workday and went for it. These were not hard, so I mustn't have been winding up enough. Probably good though given the last week! Running strong but easy for the final ten minutes. Good.

Cross Fit 25:29 intensity: (19:18 @0) + (4:13 @1) + (1:55 @2) + (3 @3)
ahr:108 max:150

Freeletics. Wanted to restart my coach week so did Nemesis again, but the endurance version to ease into it with mountain climbers rather than climbers. Crunches are definitely harder than sit ups, and don't feel as good for my back, so I switched to sit ups. Stretch afterwards felt really good.

Recovery 36:51 intensity: (1:14 @0) + (15:12 @1) + (18:07 @2) + (2:18 @3) 4.83 km (7:38 / km) +28m 7:25 / km
ahr:135 max:152 shoes: Shiny red Sauconys

Very slow shuffle into work. Shuffling made me feel nauseous for the first time in a few days, but never threateningly so. Nice to be out in the sunshine but didn't push my luck and do Freeletics too.

Rubbish walking 40:00 [0]

I went outside for the sake of going outside! Worked all day yesterday and got everything done - super productive day of excellent results. So today took it easy around the house, cooking up all the food I'd bought from the Farmer's Market last week that I hadn't managed to cook and was starting to go a bit squishy, and we went out for an afternoon stroll around Lake Wintergreen. Still got a bit wobbly by the end - still operating on a calorie deficit for the week, but my appetite is finally back (today is the first day I've eaten normally) and I'm hoping to be reset and back to normal by tomorrow.

I don't know what that bug was but it is the most ill I have felt in a very long time. The intense shivering for almost 24 hours and the throbbing headache was really horrible.

Friday Nov 20, 2015 #

Note

Made it back to work today! The fever broke yesterday morning and today I feel spaced - likely because I have ingested very few calories over the past few days, but otherwise doing okay. That was a very unpleasant couple of days. Now I have to work most of the weekend to catch up on what I missed :(

Wednesday Nov 18, 2015 #

Note

Not a good 24 hours. Spent 9 hours slicing brains yesterday, only for the burger Rob brought me from five guys late at night to give me food poisoning. Threw up violently twice last night, then again this morning. Have a massive headache now and achey muscles - contemplating getting out of bed and trying to drink something more electrolytey than just water.

I haven't thrown up in over 15 years, so it's been a very unpleasant time.

Recovery 36:21 intensity: (13 @0) + (3:38 @1) + (30:35 @2) + (1:55 @3) 4.89 km (7:26 / km) +86m 6:50 / km
ahr:140 max:151 shoes: Shiny red Sauconys

Recovery run. Feeling okay and the gorgeous morning helped. Had no urge to go to work whatsoever.

Cross Fit 12:32 intensity: (23 @0) + (1:42 @1) + (7:01 @2) + (3:26 @3) 0.1 km (2:06:36 / km)
ahr:143 max:160 shoes: Shiny red Sauconys

Freeletics. Could not do climbers to save my life this morning. Maybe only 50% of them were good. Stiff back and butt I guess!

Orienteering 1:05:16 intensity: (21 @0) + (5 @1) + (7 @2) + (45:30 @3) + (19:13 @4) 7.17 km (9:06 / km) +237m 7:49 / km

George planned a course at Hurd where the aim was to go as straight as possible. I didn't do that for number one, as there was a silly hill in the way, but after that I tried with varying success. I am still bad at going diagonally across slopes it seems! Will be interesting to look at QR in a wee while. Ran 400m more than the straight line, 150m of that likely came from number 1. Not too bad! Much slower to do the final control straight than the optimum trail route I imagine.

Edit: here's my map! 1-2 pretty awesome, 5-6 very not!

Cycling 35:00 [1]

Cycled from work to the Farmer's Market and home. It was rather windy so the cycle with a bag full of squash was pretty tough!
10 AM

Running 36:23 intensity: (16 @0) + (16 @1) + (3:07 @2) + (24:15 @3) + (8:29 @4) 6.66 km (5:28 / km) +29m 5:21 / km
ahr:165 max:179 shoes: Shiny red Sauconys

Easy run into work to freeze some brains. Tired.

Tempo run 36:21 intensity: (34 @0) + (48 @1) + (4:14 @2) + (23:14 @3) + (7:31 @4) 6.23 km (5:50 / km) +95m 5:25 / km
ahr:162 max:181 shoes: Shiny red Sauconys

15 x 15s on the way into work I never really felt like I caught my breath this morning, so it was hard. Didn't feel as good as the week before. Perhaps I got a mild version of Rob's 48 hour bug from last week.

Yoga 15:00 [1]

Sleepy time yoga. It finally didn't work as well this time. Today I walked 12,000 steps as part of experiments. The rest of this big set involves hours and hours and sitting down now :(

Wednesday Nov 11, 2015 #

Yoga 15:00 [0]

Still tired but sleepytime yoga worked very well again. I am so inflexible in things that require rotation of the torso.

Yoga 15:00 [0]

Day two of yoga - slept remarkably well again. Still very tired from the weekend. Actually walked 16,000 steps at work today as part of the logistics of doing experiments now one of our in house facilities has been shut down. Pretty exhausting in itself actually, as most of those 16,000 was carrying heavy bags of equipment too!

Cycling 35:00 [1]

Cycled into work! It was frosty, which seemed more appropriate. I was cycling through Whitneyville when a fox popped out from a garden, and trotted along the footpath. I slowed right down and cycled alongside, and it was quite happy. I really enjoyed it. Then a car zoomed past and it spooked and ran into a garden. Fine looking creature for a fox.

Yoga 10:00 [0]

Did the first day of "yoga for a good night's sleep" and slept extremely well.
5 PM

Recovery 36:22 intensity: (2:22 @0) + (15:44 @1) + (17:53 @2) + (23 @3) 5.44 km (6:41 / km) +37m 6:28 / km
ahr:133 max:150 shoes: Shiny red Sauconys

Recovery run home. Running felt pretty good. When I got home I did 60 of the first 75 star jumps on Freeletics, and realised that was not going to happen today :) Weekend was bigger than I expected, so no biggie.

Note

I do apologise if someone on the team call was offended by my swearing in the background while Alex was talking on the Team Call! We were just about to pull into New Haven Station when these two kids appeared who were doing wheelies on their bikes all over the road. I was trying so hard to avoid them that when their third friend cycled perpendicularly right in front of my car, I was pretty freaked out! Sorry!
11 AM

Orienteering 1:16:50 intensity: (16 @0) + (10 @1) + (1:19 @2) + (1:12:18 @3) + (2:47 @4) 8.09 km (9:30 / km) +232m 8:18 / km

Red at Huntington. I think Earl had an excellent day today, watching speedy young ladies crash past him only to miss the control by a country mile! I made a very silly over enthusiastic error at four, where instead of climbing a couple of gentle contours I piled up 4 steep rocky ones and got confused. Coming back down again wasn't me fun either! Lost about 3 minutes to Alex there. Then I got lost on the slope of doom at number 9, which I always screw up on. Luckily as always I found my friend boulder balancing on crag relatively quickly and was able to drop into the control. A few other bananas and a couple of lucky finds. Also some good running and some strong controls. Overall happy with the day. Very tired now, but in a good way.

Hanging streamers for the training. I really had no idea I ran this far. Now I feel nowhere near as bad for how long it took! Felt generally panicky about time the whole way and had to bail three controls from the end, when I lost contact and just had absolutely no idea where I was. But Misha saved the day and hung them for me. Thanks Misha!

Random Lauren Fleshman workout. Today was number 7 - the Taylor Swift. Did the off track version and it was a bit rubbish because the traffic was bad and I couldn't run everything as hard as I wanted. Something still better than nothing though.

I am never organising a training meet with an RSVP ever again.

It's all about the psychology right now. Can't deal with the logistics of finding a track I can run around, and I can hear Kitch saying that's not what I need right now anyway. So I tried crazy Foxdals instead - 13 minutes of 15s x 15s. Heart rate never recovers so I think it's a pretty good workout. And you can always do 15 more seconds.

Freeletics. Apollon is not nice. My 400m runs were not flat and not fast, and lost time to putting rucksac on and taking it off again. Not as bad a time as I feared it would be!
