Whew, first actual exercise in a while! The trip so far has been a whirlwind of fun and friends, with plenty of walking, be in Oxford Street Shopping or Peak District prancing with the family.
This morning I managed to wake myself up enough to put on some running shoes and do a quick tour around St Ives. The weather was gorgeous, sunny and warm, and I was huffing and puffing like a mad woman, but it was good to be out.
Now on feeding the ducks, back to York for a fancy meal, and then up to Edinburgh for a few days!

A mixture of jogging and walking and exploring at Lover's Leap State Park. Beautiful day, a nice bit of sitting down in the sun. Very warm out of the breeze.
Who needs training when you have 12 hour days where nothing works?! I threw away my remaining neurons in disgust yesterday, and now only a day of meetings (mostly fun ones) stands between me and home. Yey!
Bring a friend day! Rob and I have no friends, so we paired up. Some strength stuff first, split squats and toes to bar, then a really fun workout. Increasing in 10s of clean & jerks, Sumo deadlift high pulls, power snatch, box jumps, goblet squats, burpees, kettle bell swings, lunges, sit ups, double unders between you. We had to use the Rx weight of kettle bell because so many turned up, so Rob did extra swings while I did extra sit ups and lunges. It was really fun. 23.44 for it all.

Such a glorious day and I absolutely had to go food shopping, so stopped at Racebrook Tract for a quick easy run on the way. Seriously warm and sunny, but a few too many dogs.
The food shops were crazy - I had to queue for a space in the Whole Foods car park and Trader Joe's was epically horrible. Are people shopping early for Thanksgiving or something? Certainly not the weird lady next to me who bought 8 packets of swordfish, 4 bags of brown pasta and 2 cartons of fish stock. Mmmmmmm....meals at her house must be fun! Or maybe she really likes her cats?
I know Trader Joe's do 50% of their business at weekends but still, it was grim. Huge accident on the 15 on the way home, luckily my phone warned me and I went back the other way.
Want to leave work. Can't. Only have myself to blame after excessive kitchen tidying was more appealing than running to work this morning. Will be very happy to reach about 6pm tomorrow. What a week!

Finally got it together to run into work. Felt better than I anticipated, but not sprightly.
Power cycle. My brakes have now screwed up to an unfixable level, so I need to try to go to a bike shop. But they are open at silly times. So I pushed against my brakes pads the whole way. Great for the bike, I'm sure.
I want to tell scary Russian Man that JJ is absolutely right in the money for orienteering thread, but he is too scary. Go JJ!
Very tired today so did the Function workout as a recovery type effort rather than all out. 3 5 min AMRAPs of airdyne, kettlebell swings and burpees. Today was the first time I felt particularly lacking in the glycogen store area. Still pushed through and was consistent if not energetic.
First CT snow of the season! I am already at work :(

Ran into work! Fun at that time in the morning, and beat the enormous temperature drop. Worked from 6am till 6pm. Totally whacked now. It was hopefully very productive, but I'll find out tomorrow.
Looks like I forgot to start my watch but managed to record the trip here. We did back squats, then technique practice on clean squat jerks, then a super intense ring row and box jump short finale. Good to start the day with a workout because work was non stop (but productive).
Neither of us were really up to running today, so we skipped the O' to do something a little lighter. Unfortunately, cycling the Larkin State Park Trail was not this - awful surface meant we were moving as slow as a run, with a lot of strain on the upper legs to keep moving. It wasn't much fun, so we bailed at half an hour and came back. Ended up being just in time, as then it started to get windy and piss it down.
Guess we probably should have just gone to Ansonia after all! Nevermind!
Hiking on Lamentation Mountain, not quite at the State Park, but ssssh. It's a great place - some very steep trails but also some lovely woodland and great views. Enjoyed this a lot.
Feeling headachey from the lack of bread and pasta type carbs when we set off, much better by the end. Running might be interesting tomorrow.

Into work. Felt bad at the start, pretty good by the end. I'm waiting for the lack of glycogen to kick in. Trying a food experiment at the moment, as I am piling on the weight and really can't figure out why.
To Cross Fit early! Because it was so warm outside the lab was a sauna - heating on full and air con on full. The heating won. So I escaped. We did some snatches, which were less disastrous than the last time, and then deadlifts and ring rows. Hard work, fun.

Rob had the car for a meeting at silly o' clock. I wasn't planning on running in but that didn't leave me much choice, so I did it below 70% max HR. Very sedate, but at least more fun than walking. Ridiculously warm today - short sleeves and short tights compared to the full cover and gloves of yesterday!

Really good long warm up today with lots of drills and flexibility work. Then a 90 seconds side plank each side, which I struggled with as my whole shoulder area is stiff from doing too much bench work in hoods. Then the WOD, which was supposed to be 10 sets of 10 toes to bar, 10 box jumps, but my shoulders weren't having that. after 5 of my best toes to bar yet they were done, then I did leg raises off the bar, then when that didn't feel nice, I did strict sit ups. Just good to get out, because work is mega at the moment.
Have you Northwestern CTers been to the Steep Rock Preserves? We were at Hidden Valley today and it was glorious. Also, the Hidden Rock Eatery on Route 47 is a wonderful place for lunch afterwards. Go go go!
Commute. Bleh on the way in, lovely on the way back, mostly because it was the mid afternoon as our lab meeting was cancelled at the last minute. Spent the rest of the afternoon leaf raking and house making. Nice and relaxing.
