Orienteering race 1:14:02 [4] 5.8 km (12:46 / km) +42m 12:19 / km

Second day of tvådagars, in Fröjel, Gotland. Long distance in H55, 5.8km.
Told myself not to repeat the silly mistakes of yesterday, such as use attackpoints!
Hot day, about 25 degrees but felt much hotter in the baking sun. I lost stamina around #8 and had to walk quite a bit, which partly explains the result. After the race I had to take a nap and felt tired for hours - partial sun stroke? Or just out of shape due to minimal running since late May due to cold and back injury?
Placed 12th out of 18, 25mins behind winner.

#1: had told my self not to make silly mistakes and use attackpoints...so I made a silly mistake. Had every intention to use the path as attackpoint, but very sloppily veered too far W and missed it. Relocated after finding the rocks but lost 2:30.

#2: short on confidence now, hesitated when I got to a very clear reentrant, should have been able to see where I was but...my confidence was shot so I looked around too early. Lost 1:30.

#3: tricky control, well hidden behind bushes. My approach was correct but I stopped 20m short (step count was wrong/too short), didn't see the control, and started looking around. Very difficult area to relocate in due to subtle / minimal hills and lost of underbrush / ormbunkar. Lost 5 mins.

#4: finally, no issues.

#5: no issues until final approach, sloppily veered E and lost 1 min. Difficult to find control, too hidden (a common theme).

#6: no issues, used correct approach. Path was extremely subtle so would have been tricky to find on final approach.

#7: lazily went around, would have been 30s faster to go straight through the marsh but I was now getting tired.

#8: went the long way around the path. According to winsplits it was about 1.5 minutes faster to go to the E instead for a straighter approach. But I was getting exhausted and couldn't face the greens and the marsh. Very hot running on the long path, walked up the hill and started half walking generally. Lost 2 mins, including a little wobble on final approach.

#9: no issues. Control well hidden under a large pine tree but found it due to line of people entering.

#10: no issues

#11: exhausted, so tired brain wouldn't function. At power line intersection couldn't understand why the control wasn't there, took me a good 10s before realizing I was looking at #12. Then mixed up clearings with forest on the way, didn't lose more time other than from walking but interesting how the brain stopped working properly.

#12: took the long way around which almost certainly cost me time, but I was too tired to go through forest.

#13: no issues

Lost about 10 minutes through mistakes, plus several more due to poor route choices. But I became really exhausted after around 7 or 8, presumably because of the heat and lack of exercise in last 1.5 months.

Orienteering race 44:32 [4] 3.6 km (12:22 / km) +29m 11:53 / km

First day of 2-dagars in Fröjel, Gotland. Middle distance. Beautiful weather. Running speed was OK, but navigation not so much. Not used to Gotland terrain subtlety, and made silly mistakes. Placed 10 out of 16, 13 minutes behind winner.

#1: brain not engaged as I thought pile of rocks was the rocks just NE of control. Lost 1:45

#2: no issue navigated well.

#3: no issue

#4: beginners mistake. Came too low, thought I was higher up on the path, misread the small depression for a hill corresponding to the hill on the path. Messed around in the clearing for a while before relocating back on the path. Control well hidden too. 4:30 lost.

#5: A little too far W but no major issue

#6: Veered too far S, saw the path and the tower and the rock and came back. 30s.

#7: angry and ran fast, second fastest time.

#8: a little to the right on final approach but adjusted and found it quickly. 30s.

#9: another beginners mistake, plan was to use intersection with powerline as attackpoint, but got overconfident and cut through, rather unsuccessfully. 3 mins.

#10 through 12: no issues.

About 10:15 lost. Running speed not very impressive, just below 10m/km without bommar. Feel out of shape due to almost no running for over a month due to illness and back injury.
