Orienteering Event (BOC Relays) 42:39 [4] **** 4.01 km (10:38 / km) +200m 8:31 / km
spiked:10/14c (sick)

Even worse than yesterday ... miss punched.
Nailed #1, was too high in the re-entrant for #2 and wasted a bit of time there. #3 and 4 were good but #5 was awful ... ended going down the steep slope on the southern part of the map and lost easily 55m of climb. Saw a fox and realised I was miles away from anyone else ... decided to plod up the hill and saw the control at the very top as I came round a boulder. At #6 I thought I was at #7 so navigated to #8 and then got really confused as I couldn't find the control and had found a fence that I couldn't match up with the map. Ran around for ages and then found #8 which I seemed to remember as the one I was looking for. The rest of the controls were fine ...

Orienteering Event (BOC Long) 1:32:03 [4] ***** 8.66 km (10:38 / km) +400m 8:38 / km
spiked:10/19c (sick)

Probably one of the worst runs I've ever had ...
Messed up #1 ... was 50m of climb below where I was supposed to have been. #2 basically ruined the whole race as I found it impossible to stay focused after it ... lost 10 minutes. #3 was alright but was a bit too low for #4 ... worked that out pretty quickly though. Felt like I had a really good route to #6 but spent ages looking for the crossing point I had to use and as they were stone steps they were really hard to see (then messed up near control anyway). Lost loads of time at #7 at the end of the leg ... found every other control close to mine before finding it. Went past #11 and couldn't tell the difference between my #12 and #19 (wasn't concentrating) on the map so ran past #12 and had to go back to it. Ended up at #17 before #14 somehow but no idea how I managed it. Then was too low for 15 and lost all confidence so walked to 16 and 17.
... saw a deer though.

Awful undergrowth ... loads of nettles.
Lost a bit of time within 10m of the control at #1, went into the wood too early for #2 so took a bit of time getting to it and #3 was a bit dodgy as the map was missing about 5 gullies. Also took a stupid route to #14 but hit it bang on.
