real good, had more fun than yesterday.
I got in the right frame of mind and naviagated well. They only mistake i really made was that i ran to acreek that wasnt mapped near the creek where the control was. When i got back to the finished it turns out my creek was deleted from my map and no one elses... wtf seriously.

took the long map out again. i think i set a pretty good long distance course on it too. had three longish legs and i nice loop back through the spectator control.
ran from my house to bardon back via bowman park etc

i cant seem to get it under my pb.
i know im way faster then what i was before easter so why cant my 3k get lower.
i got the latest edition of R4YL today, there is a good article in there from easter but there are some photos in there that arnt so good...it's so embarrissing....

this was fun!
i put three fake si units on control stands that clive made for me, in my front yard about 5m apart and practiced my SI punching. I did this because i really do suck at it. I counted how many times i spiked it perfectly at high speeds with out stopping.
i got to 17! which was really good because i couldnt even get 4 to begin with.

terrain run aorund mt cootha with a swedish map of somewhere. had to memorise the course. didnt really want to do this today so i went really slowly and was far too tired to memorise anything so i only did 4 controls. pretty poor effort

ended up coming 9th. was a heaps fun race. didnt know my exit routes very well.

didnt know what was going on at all, generally the worst middle race i have done in a while. the long legs were all shit and the short ones were fantastic. Too much of a long leg for a middle.

yah! a complete rest day. i like these days :D


also this morning i went to a qld women in sport breakfast for all the rising stars from last years awards night. This was a chance to meet our new mentors that we will be emailing over the next year. My mentor is Vicki Wilson and i showed her some orienteering maps and she sprung at the idea of sending her firebirds on a orienteering course around st peters. So she is super keen now haha.
Also i met Susie O'Neil and she thought orienteering was super cool!

she paced me for the whole run becuase she is having a taper week. Anyways i got a PB and pretty much died at the end but anna really helped with my hill running technique

terrain run while map memory. had to memorise a short D55 course from oringen in DALARNA 1999. and tell clive where i would go by memory when i got back

orienteering intervals 30:00 [5]

did 12 short 300m courses where i had to know the direction of the control and which way to exit really fast. Was really good and i nailed everyone of them. My SI punching is pretty shotty though but clive helped with si position and it seems to be better now... or i was concentratiing more.

training day 2.
While waiting for anna to put controls out rach, krys and i went in did a map memory course. i went and put out two controls came back and drew the map from memory while krys and rach went to run the course. did this twice

w21e course from the aus middle distance champs 2004
was doing ok until 5 where i got sidetracked by bare rock and ended up way off and then really couldnt find 5 well. same happened for 7
wasted 10mins all up

Since we did the course so badly anna made us go out and do the w21e course again.
Still had to think really hard about where i was and stuff so it really didnt make much of a difference navigationlly but running was way better. Figured out paths and tracks between controls and my control flow was excellent.
if i had run this one back in 2004 i would have come 8th....but cascades is totally overgrown now so you know..

short compass course at the amiens, the basic idea was to try and stay on a straight line since all controls were on track junctions. i spiked 4 fairly well but 2 were really bad.

speed control exercise.
really long fast legs with really intricate detail around the control circle. found them all fine and my speed was pretty good. good fun!

control picking/ control flow exercise.
Really good, the first bit was pretty shitty running but the end of the course was really fun. had a bit of trouble on one where i just could not find the damn rock. this was due to my lack of concentration and shitty compass bearing yah!

ran around the oval at gap creek memorising a course from wild boar creek. and then had to talk clive through the course by memory at the end.managed to memorise the whole thing ok

very hilly course set by clive at gap creek. i had to race everyone else who was doing the same controls but not zigzagged like my course (their course was circular and had not much climb) anyway was first back yah.. but not by much.

strange things about today-
1. while driving to gap creek i came around a corner and screeched to a halt because some idiot was comming around that corner towards me on my side of the road! he missed me by cm but then collision number two almost happened when the car behind me screeched to a halt and was only a few cm away from my car. the car that alsmot hit me was like meh and drove a way while i was sitting my car petrified and almost in tears.

2. I came home from training and my parents are missing...they are always here and mums purse is here and there cars are here and when i phone mum she picked up and hanged up on me :( have they abandoned me and where is my dinner?

note: i have found my parents they were at the doctors fixing dads neck because a bus ran into the back of his car while on the way to the airport, he's fine but he's not going to adelaide anymore.

orienteering race 1:10:00 [4] 5.0 km (14:00 / km) +350m 10:22 / km

ha what a joke this was.
Samford forest red2. was a fantastic course for that area and we were driven to the start ( which was at the top of the hill about 2 km away) the rest was running around and down the hill and also up.
didnt have any problem with controls 1-13
14-15 (the easy ones in the picnic area) i just gave up and was fumbling around trying to find water courses by taking bearing of picnic tables..hrmm so bad.
All and all i know my hill fitness has improved because this was actually fun. (which means alot from me for a brisbane map)
just couldnt figure out how i lost so much time in the end when i got back. i mean i knew i spent at least 2 mins at water stations and 2mins lost tying my shoes every freaking min, and the last two control fumbles...but other than that i thought i did alright until i got back and realised i was beaten (by alot) by every single neumann...
hahah oh well., good times

Map reading.

Took the long distance map for jwoc this year and read the map while i was running today. did two courses. i seem to be familiarising myself with the map better but im still sooo unsure about it all.

I really dont know why i did 85mins. it was a bit insane really, i was planning on doing 50mins but you know how things go.
Ran from my house to paten road then the lance and wendy's. Up the rocky steep track to the ring road, crossed over to the jc slaughter track. Up to channel 9 , down moggil road and then back over the creek to home.
I had to stop 5mins short from home cause i was really really sore and tired. my legs are really feeling it now.

all and all a good run and im feeling quite fit at the moment :)
btw at 5:pm today ive had exactly 12500 hits on my trog, thats like the whole population of stanthorpe
