This was a new map but in area I know from geocaching etc. After four consecutive failures to finish an orienteering course, I really needed this one. I was dropped off on Timm Drive and caught the bus (on Eagleson) home after the event. There was a huge turnout, mostly due to junior training program. I saw few of those youngsters on my course. Due to the federal government property, a long course has to circle the perimeter of the fenced off region. This makes for challenging course setting across the north portion of the map, beside highway 417.

Unlike my typical outing, I ran bearings while others used trails. It used to be the other way around. This might be a function of my familiarity with terrain or the fact I can't see trails well on maps anymore. I think it's time to buy a real compass if I put in a full season next year. I'm pleased with my error time but I can account for too much of it by bearing being off.

I must get new shoes. There were many breaks for geocaches that are not factored in the timing. Looking at running on Saturday and orienteering Sunday, don't tell me I'm becoming a weekend warrior.

Note

Five years from now I need another colonoscopy. All was clear. Note to self: next time use vaseline for burns during prep. Calories, electrolytes and caffeine were nicely under control. However, there was still no chance to leave the building once prep begins.

Unlike my procedure in early 2006, I was given an intravenous sedative without being given a choice. I may have been better without as I nearly fainted with low blood pressure just from the IV insert. I'm such a baby with needles.

Colonoscopy in two days so I am off analgesics meaning my knee hurts, my teeth hurt and my head hurts. Ziggy got in to something nasty on Saturday and is having sneezing like fits.

Running 10:00 [3] 1.2 km (8:20 / km)

I better go have some solid food before I prep for the hospital.
