Running (Easy) 1:02:00 [2] 12.0 km (5:10 / km) +20m 5:07 / km

Canal path take 2. Out of bed and straight out the door. Took the first few k to make sure everything was working properly (and again to find the canal...) then settled into some kind of rhythm. Feeling quite clunky, a lot less fluid than yesterday, but nothing in particular giving me grief. Saw a cat, some baby geese and got to cross over the canal FOUR TIMES! I could hardly contain my excitement.

Strides much the same as the run. A little bit of a grind, the last few improving as I focused more on turnover than speed. Hit the hotel breakfast buffet hard.

Running (Easy) 1:00:00 [2] 9.9 km (6:04 / km) +38m 5:57 / km

A run of two halves. First half with Karen zigzagging around the uni campus looking for a canal, bushwhacking along the wrong side of the canal, slithering up and down an embankment, finally finding the canal. 3.8k.

Then I did my caring boyfriend bit and fucked off. 15 minutes getting the legs going, then 15 minutes turning over nicely. 6k. Legs pretty stuffy from yesterday's exertions and 8 hours in a car but it felt really nice to get running. Strides were gooood. Jogged back to the hotel, stretching time.

Running (Specific Endurance) 1:55:00 [3] 14.3 km (8:03 / km) +1200m 5:40 / km

Straight into hiking mode out of the lodge through the woods, down the fireroad to the reindeer centre, up Creagan Form, over Meall a'Bhuachaille to the bothy then back again.

All good, nice to have some more pleasant weather. 300cal of tailwind and 2 gels. Everything felt pretty straightforward.

A fairly protracted coffee break then a fairly truncated gym session. Didn't have the oomph to get everything done so cherry picked the more complex exercises/best bang for your buck.
Hang cleans 35 40 40
Suitcase deadlift 40 45 47.5
Split squats 10 15 15
Pull ups 5 5 5
Had intended to do resistance band and Swiss ball stuff but I was getting a bit wobbly on the squats and pull ups so I'll called it quits. I'll do that stuff before bed tonight. Got a good bit of stretching done.

Turbo (Moderate intervals) 1:20:00 [3]

10' warm up, 5x10' w/ 2:30 easy, 10' cool down while watching headcam videos of the Berlin Inline Skate Marathon.

4/5 intervals were grinding a big gear, about 80rpm, one was trying to spin a bit faster but ended up being a bit rubbish. All seataed. Intervals are definitely preferable to just trying to keep a steady effort on turbo sessions, I end up mucking about a lot and not doing much real work when I do that.

Off to town to try and find a wedding present (whisky), will try to stretch/roller this afternoon.

Running (Easy + TEs) 1:01:00 [2] 11.2 km (5:27 / km) +87m 5:15 / km

Drills on the path out from the lodge. All fine, just some after massage funniness. Right hip started funky, by the time the running was done it was the left hip. First half hour felt a bit effortful, second hand I was skipping along nicely, cadence felt brisk. A bit of tension in both hamstrings. Strides were good, partly because my legs were turning over well, partly because Ian showed up with his dog and I got to throw sticks for a bit.

Gym was as scintillating as it usually is.
Step ups 5 7.5 10
Pull ups 5 5 5
Split squats 10 10 15
Hang cleans 40 40 40 (Hit myself in the chin with the barbell, a first)
Suitcase deadlift 40 42.5 45
Goblet Squat 25 30 30
Side plank 3x8
Hamstring curls 3x8
3 sets of resistance band glute exercises and single leg bridges. Abs stuff slipped through the net.

Walked on the treadmill, did a bit of stretching.

Running (Easy) 1:02:00 [2] 11.4 km (5:26 / km) +85m 5:15 / km
slept:7.0

Some drills and leg swings in the changing rooms. B-skips really getting into the hamstrings! Legs felt tired doing bodyweight squats.

Running was fine. A few bits of stiffness but not much in the way of soreness. Tried to keep it very easy. Strides were ok, dodging the ban holiday crowds. Left inner quads maybe a little tweaky.

Massage not as dreadful as feared.

Note

Easy day rollerblade adventure!
6.5k up a private tarmaced road I didn't existed, shoes on, a mile of boulder hopping, heather bashing and river fording to Ruigh Aiteachain bothy for lunch and a chinwag with the guy who appears to be a semi permanent resident, then reverse the first part.

Certainly nice to do something with no impact (hopping over mini cattle grids aside). Legs are tired today but not too dreadful. The pushy outy bit of skating really gets into your glutes and tensor fasciae latae(thanks google). Definitely feel more limber now than when I started.

Massage before work tomorrow, I'll get an easy run and some strides in before that.
