Orienteering race (NZOC Relay) 51:48 [5] ***** 6.73 km (7:42 / km) +39m 7:29 / km

Was the only member of NOC at the competition who had to run "Open", so I ended up being the ring-in for a couple of visiting Aussies. This was Red courses for the first time and they managed respectable times for legs 1 and 2, leaving me the opportunity to screw it up on the third. Luckily I kept it steady and had only one substantial mistake in a very vauge area of fine detail, so finished in a respectable time and even before the prize giving! Easily my best race of the weekend and nice to finish on a high note.

I like this new format for the relay - it was great to see the focus shared among all age groups, with some exciting races and opportunities for real competition in all categories. Perhaps needs a tweak of some kind to make space for the approx. 16yo category who were beyond running orange but for whom the Open was a struggle.
