Road Run 15:00 [1] 1.21 mi (12:24 / mi)
ahr:121

warmup

Orienteering 47:48 [3] 4.08 mi (11:43 / mi)
ahr:164 max:176

Red course at Manitou, 6.1 km straight line. After the race last night I was really tired and just flopped down in my tent, I didn't spend anytime getting the sleeping pad correct, as such, I was nearly completely debilitated from back pain in the morning. I slept past 8am, which is a rare thing. My back hurt so bad I could barely walk or do anything for an hour. After breakfast, I could walk fine, and on the warm up, things had greatly improved as running was no problem beyond some mild back discomfort and a stiff ankle. Fortunately by race time, neither problem were noticed the whole time. I ran quite well, though except for a few choice location, I never cranked up the speed for fear of rolling the ankle, but also the elevation (~8000') was noticeably a factor. For number 1 there are arguably better routes there, but I somewhat picked a safe route choice to get into the groove. After that things went well, though I may have spent just a touch too much time reading the map here and there, but only once did I not run right to the control (#14, but I quickly caught my mistake). Things went better by all accounts compared to the night before, despite really questioning if I'd be able to run given the back pain in the morning.

Night-O, long (5.1 km straight line) at Manitou. I didn't sleep well the night before so was not feeling the best come race time at 9pm, but a bigger hindrance was the very real fear of rolling my still recovering ankle. I had rolled it slightly earlier in the day when bringing in the trash can and it hurt like the dickens. Fortunately no damage was done then. At any rate, I took it easy as even through my headlamp was quite decent, it was tough to see the ground and I felt that every step potentially could have resulted in damage and pain to the ankle. Worst control was number 1, my head wasn't in the game and I veered off course on the approach, but fortunately I realized my mistake fairly quickly and looped around to find it. The only other issue was that I initially thought number 3 was a spur, not a re-enterant, causing me to zig-zag until I realized my error. Other than that, I just plotted slowly along, but certainly not navigating as well as I would in the day light.

Road Run 1:08:00 [1] 6.75 mi (10:04 / mi)
ahr:141

Ran over to Greeley West park to figure out some possible 1 mile TT routes. Not sure why, I don't really see myself actually doing it, I think. It was hot, but I got through it and it wasn't bad and nice to get out for a longish run.

Road Bike 1:06:00 [1] 15.97 mi (4:08 / mi)
ahr:128

Found a good alternative to riding 28th all the way down, 28th to 16th to 43rd, ends right at the other bike trail. This is much nicer in that there's less traffic, less stopping, and more (all) bike lanes. Did this, then out F to Sheeps, back by dog park on the Poudre and 14th. Fairly hot and a stiff wind from the east made it less than ideal riding conditions, but nice to get out.

Road Run 24:00 [4] 4.08 mi (5:53 / mi)

Running club. With yesterday off and a solid week of training before that, I was hopping for a strong workout, which it was, though maybe not quite as quick as I would have liked, but patience is key as always with training. Workout was 2, 4, 6, 6, 4, 2 min. with 3 min. rest. The state ranked high school women was there, who's capable of sub-12 min 2 mile (purportedly ran 11:30 just last week), surprisingly did not put up much of a fight after the first 2 min, but that's been the pattern from her in the past. It was showery and thunder the first half, which was bad enough that I nearly thought it too dangerous, but it cleared for the second half for some nice running weather. Watch paces were 5:42, 41, 6:07, 03, 01, 5:29. The mile splits on the ground for the 6 min. ones were 5:55 and 56. Bowels were not happy on the cool down and it was cut that shorter than I wanted. Ankle was tight, particularly on the first few. Used the new Brookes, they worked well, but I haven't figured out the lacing yet.

Cyclo-X 1:21:00 [1] 17.37 mi (4:40 / mi)
ahr:121

Probably half was on gravel trail. Took the long way to Homestead, only did a couple laps as there were just enough people on the trails to not make it worth it. Then to J-Jones, where there was essentially no-one, do did a couple of laps there. I do need to work on the X-bike's riding position, it hurts my neck.

Note

Just a point of clarification, there was a "large" tornado in the area I was looking at yesterday, but it wasn't the tornado I saw, which was just an F0 or something similar.
