Trail Run 7:00 [1] 0.61 mi (11:28 / mi)
ahr:116

warmup

Orienteering 53:52 [3] 5.31 mi (10:09 / mi)
ahr:157 max:178

Peaceful Valley red course, 7.5km straightline. A pretty frustrating day. I was looking forward to it as it was a good map, but as I was just starting my warmup, I received word of problems out on the course. Apparently the scout ranch folks said the courses went in places they shouldn't, so there was some lounging around until there was word that there would be a course, but it would be shortened. The first 5 controls were cut out and a new first control was put in place to setup the rest of course. In the distraction of these issues, I didn't really get a chance to check if there were clue cards, apparently there were, but they were at the start only. So while I was running, I mainly held the clue sheet in my right hand. 6, 7, 8, 9, were all fine, but 10 I mis-read the map and didn't go across the re-enterant, but went up the wrong side of the wrong re-enterant. Never saw the small trail, which is just a mt. bike single track and probably should be a lighter line - something I noted elsewhere on the map - but really shouldn't be a big deal. Leaving 13 I twisted my ankle, not bad, but had to walk, then take it easy most of the way to 14, which I was strangely indecisive about, even though I knew exactly where I was going, just didn't have a lot of confidence. 16 I totally blew, I had the wrong game plan, and got off track, ran right by it trying to cut back to it, and the contours suggested the slope in the area was much less than it was. Ran right by 17, not sure why I couldn't see that one. Looking at my track, and thinking about the race in general, the issues with the course change was a distraction that clearly effected my focus, which I shouldn't have let it, also, I did have a mentality about going fast today, having built confidence from last weekend, a game plan that never works. And I relied on compass bearing more than usual, which often helps, but today seemed to get me off course a number of times (leaving 9, going to 12, leaving 14 [which the gps suggested was hung too high-I had to fudge the track a bunch to fit that one], most of going to 16). Not sure how they'll handle the results, but it may have been a good day to have a bad day...

At any rate, I hope we can return to this map despite the problems today.

Roller Ski Poles Only 15:00 [2] 2.07 mi (7:15 / mi)
ahr:128

Did some double pole only up 28th, 4 times. Left shoulder had time tightness/pain, so decided not to do too much. Idea was to give my legs a break.

Trail Run 24:00 [3] 4.17 mi (5:45 / mi)

Running club. 2, 4, 6, 6, 4, 2min w/ 3min rest. Didn't really constitute a level 4 workout. Last two days I've been essentially limping around with lower Achilles (heal) pain on the right foot, and lower calf soreness/tightness on both sides. So decided to take it easy. Things felt better after the warmup and while running hard they felt pretty close to normal. On the 6's, started to open it up a bit, but ran as fast as I could without noticing the pain too much. Paces were 5:52, 6:01, 5:50, 47, 44, 18. Weather slowly getting cooler, but it was still in the 80's today during the workout.

Road Bike 1:12:00 [1] 17.97 mi (4:00 / mi)
ahr:105

Easy ride to be easy on the legs. My lower right calf was pretty sore. 11th to Poudre to Sheeps to Fox Run, then worked my way to Aims, back on 16th. Pace wasn't bad despite going easy.

warmup, extended cooldown, rehung #19.

Orienteering 1:11:10 [3] 7.76 mi (9:10 / mi)
ahr:155 max:173

Goat training race at Remarkable Flats, 11.5 km straight line. Ran well, physically the three days of running in a row was starting to take its toll on the Achilles, but they felt quite good during the run. No major problems, just some searching around the control circle on a few, in part because the next step in improving would be to read the control description and implement the clue in the route choice. In general I'm reading the detail better than I ever have and did well picking up the big features when I got lost in the details.

Nice to chat with folks after the race, wish I had more time to volunteer more with the club(s).

Many thanks to Swampfox for three great days of orienteering.
