Ski-O 51:50 [2]

Ski-O at Eldora. Winds were high and the rocks were plenty. Still a good time though, challenging due to the number of complex intersections that had to be navigated. Given the people on the trials, and the difficult terrain, never could really ski all that hard. Results:

Skate Ski 15:00 [1]

warmup

Skate Ski 7:47 [4]

Wednesday night TT at the Jack. Team sprints, 3 x campground loop. Paired with college dude Nathan, who was pretty quick. Skied anchor, times of 2:29, 2:42, 2:36, times seems too variable to me but who knows how the timing was done. Was a total off 6 sec behind OtherRussian, which suggests I should have gone harder. Some of those college skiers could V2 up the hill, which is pretty impressive as I doubt I could have done that in my prime. 3rd team overall. Results: http://racesplitter.com/races/8062C38B2

Skate Ski 1:00:00 [2]

Brisk ski after the race, kept the pace up there the whole time, threshold on the ups.

Classic Ski 42:18 [4] 10.0 km (4:14 / km)

Frisco Gold Rush, 10km classic. Weather much warmer than expected again and I wished I had some pure fluoros, chose the Madshus as they had better kick than the Atomics, though they were slower. About 10min before the start the sun came out in full force and began to transition the snow and kick became drastically less in a very short period of time. Was third off the start and lurked there through the flats of the campground, skis were definitely dragging and was passed by the top woman heading into the first hill leading up the backside of the moraine. The little kick I had was significantly better than anyone else as I passed the women and the second place guy (who I saw doing the old 'V1 herring bone') who was completely floundering. By now, first was pretty much out of sight, but tried to get as much of a lead as possible on the very long hill across the top of the moraine knowing his skis were probably faster on the downs. Sun made things really slow and he did close the gap but fortunately the 2.5k second lap had the long gradual hill up the campground access road, was able to open up a gap again with the very little kick that was left to secure 2nd. Skate Ski 55:10 [4] 15.0 km (3:41 / km)

Frisco Gold Rush, 15km skate. Was pretty tired by now and conditions were quite variable, some spots incredibly slow, other OK where skied in. Pretty much completely destroyed off the start and continued to fall back until the hill, where I was able to pull people in. Track were typically much faster than the skate lane and used it quite a bit to stay with people or reel them in. Second lap pulled more people in on the hill. A feeble 28th overall: http://www.townoffrisco.com/wp-content/uploads/201...
