Orienteering race 1:21:23 [4] 7.0 km (11:38 / km) +300m 9:34 / km
shoes: VJ Falcon Blue

GAOC meet at Don Carter S.P. Had a really good run orienteering-wise. No big mistakes. Bobbled a couple controls for about 20-30 sec each. So less than 1 min in errors - not bad! Still not very fast running, still walking up the steep hills, manage to run up some of the smaller and less steep hills though.
"Running" may be an exaggeration, but at least it's a jog. Lots of crap on the ground in many places here, so that slows me down a big bunch also. Small turn-out because the schools had a ROTC-only meet here yesterday, so only the club running today.
Actual distance ran was about 7.7 km, so ran pretty close to the straight line for most controls.

Orienteering (pick-up controls) 1:30:00 [1] 5.36 km (16:47 / km)

Picked up the eight controls out at the NE edge of the map. The sun came out in the afternoon. It was a very nice walk in the woods. I was pretty tired by the time I finished.

Bicycling 4:00:00 [3] 40.0 mi (6:00 / mi)

Rode out and back on the Silver Comet Trail. Started at the Paulding County Chamber of Commerce trailhead. Rode a mile or 2 past Rockmart. Took probably a one hour break in Rockmart and ate a sandwich before returning. Went with Pam and Guy to celebrate Guy's birthday. Nice day, temp may have gotten over 60.

Note

Shuttled food for the CAC food bank this morning. Spent much of the afternoon revising course designs for the January Sweetwater meet. A little tired from the long day in the woods yesterday. Enough to be unmotivated to do anything active today :-(

Ran my proposed Blue course at Sweetwater Creek S.P. Probably never moved any faster than a good jog. And plenty of stopping to look around to see how I felt about the updated map and some of the control locations. Sam removed amost all of the old rootstocks and dot knolls. That's a good thing as most of them had withered away and were really too small to be mapped. There are LOTS of new, very large (1-3m) rootstocks. Many of them are now mapped. I found some that I think he missed or may have occured since he checked that area of the map.
Not sure how I feel about the course design. On one hand, this time of year the woods is really open and runnable with good visibility. So it should be fast. But there is a fair amount of climb (probably >4%) so that will slow things down a little bit. With the exception of a few rootstocks most controls are on linear features, e.g. rentrants, and even the rootstocks are just an obvious point in a reentrant - so the orienteering is not very technical or particularly challenging. But it's what we have so, so be it.
I am pretty happy that I could jog off and on up to the very end of a >2 hour/11km outing.

Bicycling 1:45:30 [3] 25.25 mi (4:11 / mi) +383m 3:59 / mi

Riding along the river again - Lower Roswell - Riverside - Eaves Rd to the park at the end to turn around. Added the loop arounf Morgan Lake in both directions. Hardly any other riders out today. Traffic was light also.
Pretty cold today, mid 40s with a light breeze. Not bad after warming up but I never did feel warm either. Very pretty day though, sunny and clear.
