Orienteering race 1:11:05 [4] *** 9.0 km (7:54 / km)
spiked:19/21c

DVOA - Fox Chaser - Red Course Day #2 - I guess consciously leaving something in the tank yesterday paid off since I was able to run at a better pace. In looking at other scores is seemed that about 1/2 the Red group ran Sunday's course faster. I thought it might have been a bit more technical on Saturday, but not that much. Anyway, I thought I was really doing great through Control #12, where I wound up on the heels of another Red runner. We took different routes to #13, but the rest of the controls were somewhat tightly bunched and for 5 of the last 8 controls I was more or less right behind him. I found myself concentrating on keeping up with, and passing him rather than my route choices. Unfortunately the terrain/map didn't offer many risk taking opportunities.

I lost about a minute tying my shoes twice between #10 and #11.

Orienteering race 1:12:36 [4] *** 8.2 km (8:51 / km)
spiked:20/23c

DVOA Fox Chaser - Red Course - Started out a bit on the hesitant side and stuck to the roads for the first control until I got comfortable with the map. I struggled a bit until Control #3, taking a zig zag route that was not close to direct. After tripping on a fence and banging my knee coming out of #3. I started to settle down. I had some trouble with #14 (came down the steep embankment too far) and #18 (I dropped into the creek bed - light green way too early). I ran fairly clean for the rest of the way and didn't go too hard so I would have some energy for Sunday.

Running 46:53 [3] 5.07 mi (9:15 / mi)
shoes: PI - SyncroFloat

Fleet Feet hill workout - Monroe ave to Cobbs Hill. Normally I wouldn't have run since I was up very early for work and was ready to call it a day - but we already had a sitter set up. Felt pretty bad the entire time. Will take it easy until the weekend.
