Orienteering race 53:45 intensity: (19 @1) + (48 @2) + (16:11 @3) + (34:47 @4) + (1:40 @5) 8.23 km (6:32 / km) +228m 5:44 / km

H2 at Jorgensen Park.
There was quite a good field entered for this so I tried to push it quite hard thinking it could be a tight race but Ricky and Hadrien didn't end up getting to run due to the dead body found near number 4.
I was second starter I think and caught Robert Graieg at number 2 so was having to switch controls on from there. Several of them beeped strangely when switching on, similar to when Sten failed to register at one in front of me at the relays at John Forrest, so I punched most of them twice. Two of them registered as extra punches which messed up the splits a bit but I think I punched twice at more than two.
I had an ok run with my biggest issue being distracted coming into 17 when I stopped to tell Amy where she was when I would have been checking my final approach to the control and then dodging a family of 4 coming up the track I was going down right at the point I should have been leaving it if I had known what I was doing. Probably lost 35-40 seconds all up so still would have been struggling to beat Mitchell Crook's time for that leg.

Got back to find that Robert Graieg had found a dead body just above control 4 just a few minutes after I must have run right past it. Liam had started just after me so would have come through just a couple of minutes later. He didn't notice the body either but did see Robert there using his phone for what must have been his initial call to the police. Very glad that it was Robert who found the body and not either of us.

Finished about 15 minutes clear of Aldo who was mostly quite close to me but lost 5 minutes each on 8 and 11.

Relocation training with Aldo. Joseph didn't come because he was feeling sick so I had to fill in for him and do the exercise with Aldo. I kept thinking Aldo looked as though he was going slowly and yet he was still pulling away from me so I had to work quite hard to stay close.

Orienteering 9:40 intensity: (3 @0) + (42 @1) + (1:54 @2) + (3:07 @3) + (3:38 @4) + (16 @5) 0.94 km (10:18 / km) +28m 8:58 / km

Orienteering 13:35 intensity: (29 @1) + (44 @2) + (1:31 @3) + (10:47 @4) + (4 @5) 2.64 km (5:09 / km) +3m 5:07 / km

Sprint course around SVAC. Started a minute after Riley and had him in sight quite early but never managed to catch him. Finished about 11 seconds behind him, probably running about the same speed but just gaining a few seconds here and there being a little quicker through controls.

Running intervals 53:56 intensity: (6:22 @1) + (20:04 @2) + (11:17 @3) + (16:05 @4) + (8 @5) 10.2 km (5:17 / km)
ahr:132 max:160 weight:72.7kg shoes: Solar Glide Blue and White

Failed to get out before dinner so left it until a couple of hours after dinner. I wasn't feeling very motivated but thought I could make myself do a reasonable distance by doing some intervals around the ovals. Took the headlamp in case the lights were off but they did stay on for the whole session. The light closest to me switched off as I stepped off the ovals on the way home.
Aimed for the old standard 5x1k with 1:30 rest but didn't have high expectations. I hoped I could at least get down to 4:10 but half way through the first effort I was thinking 4:20 was probably more likely so I was a bit shocked when the first was 3:54. The second felt a little smoother but I didn't expect a 3:45. On the third I was starting to feel as though I may be pushing too hard for a 3:43. By then I wasn't sure I should attempt a 5th but decided I should do it but make an effort to back off. I tried not to go harder on the 4th but still did 3:41. For the 5th I did make an effort to shorten the stride and try to keep a more sustainable rhythm so was quite pleased it was still as fast as 3:48.
I would guess that the GPS was being generous tonight but I think I must have still been running better than usual because I was getting close to 2 full laps. It was nice to have the oval almost to myself with no dogs or soccer players to dodge.
